Chapter 81 of Unkindness is up!
The unkind words that we said and the unkind deeds that we did will haunt us one day!
Avijeet Das
Today's impossible daydream?
Medical providers wanting to learn how to phrase things kindly. Them seeking out disabled and chronically ill people and asking what they should know.
To every medical provider out there:
It doesn't help to be standoffish or impatient with your 'problem' patients. Even if you're 100% sure they're malingering or it's psychological or whatever it doesn't help to communicate that.
Your role is to provide the best care you can considering the available information. You can't do that when your behavior has led the patient to hide information and disregard your advice.
And the amount of ableism I've seen from providers is baffling. If you have negative attitudes toward disabled people you are in the wrong fucking profession. How dare you?
How dare you judge them for making unhealthy choices or not following through on your advice? Disabled people shouldn't have to perform disability to your specifications to deserve care and compassion.
"Unkindness may do much, And his unkindness may defeat my life, But never taint my love."
William Shakespeare, Othello
[Foxes burrow along the meadow. I remain overstory, I pine with the pines. An unkindness of ravens repeat your words. This merciless water's clear as a mirror. Reflecting day breaking into endless night.]
