my favourite part about the conversation buck had with athena in 9.09 was when buck suggested that athena didn’t have that voice in her head that made her insecure. but athena quickly shot that down to say that of course she did, everyone has that voice, even her. i feel like the fandom puts athena on a pedestal of “strong female character” without really figuring out what they mean by that. by which case, they view athena as some one dimensional character that isn’t phased by a lot or at the least isn’t “typically emotional”. which we know it’s not true. and i think it’s a big reason why a portion of the fandom weren’t giving athena grace for truly how deeply bobby’s death affected her- in terms of her isolation and recklessness with her own life. well that and like just racism.
