i love an unresponsive whumpee... and you should throw a fresher prisoner into their cell and strike new terror into their heart seeing what's in store for them and have them do all they can to coax original!whumpee back into awareness, talking to them gently, trickling water down their throat, holding their hand and stroking the back of it even as they lose hope, they don't know if they're doing it for their cellmate any more or if they just need to convince themself they're not alone. and then give me original!whumpee weakly squeezing their hand. and the rush of relief and hope and you're ok, you'll be ok and i'm not alone and if you survived this we both can
I’m completely obsessed with your writing, you’re so good! Can you do a drabble where whumpee goes catatonic after being rescued? I don’t see that trope enough and I think it’s super interesting
(♡THANK YOU!♡ We do love an underrated catatonic whumpee)
CW: Injured whumpee, hurt/comfort, unresponsive
"-s me,"
"It's Caret-"
The high-pitch ringing in whumpee's ears drowned out the voice. Their eyes were closed but they saw white flashes of light bleeding through.
"Pl -- wake up- !"
They felt something settle on both sides of their face, a gentle warm feeling. It then shook them back and forth.
"-It's me!"
Whumpee squirmed and the touch suddenly left them. They heard rapid noises in and out, but the voice always stayed close.
"Ple- look at me, open your eyes"
Whumpee tried to, but their body had shut down. They had no sense of urgency, only curiosity for the voice. They lifted their hand as a gesture; they immediately felt someone grab it.
" - got you," The voice whispered. Whumpee felt themselves get wrapped in arms and lifted off the ground. Even in pain they were silent, trapped in the depths of their mind. Caretaker kept checking for a pulse, making sure they were still breathing, talking to them trying to stimulate something, anything for a sign they were still in there.
Briefly, whumpee opened their eyes and stared at them blankly.
"Hey." Caretaker greeted with a watery smile. "I got you, no one's going to hurt you. We're going home, okay?" They soothed. Whumpee's lips parted in response, only a quiet "m..." came out. There was the smallest hint of recognition and a smile, before their eyes closed again.
Caretaker does their best to breathe steadily as Whumpee turned their head in their direction, but doesn’t look up at them. It’s been several hours now, and they still haven’t said a word since being rescued. Caretaker sighed and sat down in front of Whumpee, holding a hairbrush up in front of them.
“I was going to brush out your hair. It’s pretty messy, and it might help you feel a little better.”
Caretaker watches as Whumpee slowly reaches up to touch the brush, gripping the bristles and running their fingers over the smooth backside. Caretaker smiles, happy to see some response from them.
“Now I’ll try to be as gentle as possible,” Caretaker said as they carefully walked behind Whumpee, making sure to make no sudden movements. “It looks pretty tangled, so it might take a little longer than normal.”
As they take the brush to Whumpee’s hair, they slowly begin to unravel dozens of tangles and knots. Every so often, they hold the brush in front of Whumpee, just to remind them that it was harmless. Whumpee is frozen stiff at first, but as their hair is smoothed our over time, they begin to lean into it. Caretaker takes the fresh, long hair and ties it into a firm, but not tight braid.
