There's nothing wrong with liking popular, mainstream or 'low' culture, obviously. But ngl it is difficult to avoid feeling a degree of contempt for how desperately, violently insecure a certain fraction of people get at just the idea that someone might be looking down on and judging their taste.

If absolutely nothing else you can get newsletters with the headlines and basic blurbs for the day's big stories from basically every major service for free. I have like 3 daily from Bloomberg and a couple Canadian and local ones. Not even counting actually free stuff.
