DemiDemi’s YomeYome Situation

To start of with a translation note, the Japanese entry title is “デミデミのヨメヨメ事件”. Yome (ヨメ) is the same sound as the word for wife or bride (嫁). As explained in this Japan Times article, the term holds the connotation that the woman will do all the cooking, cleaning, raising the kids, caring for the parents, etc. while the man spends his life at work and has affairs.

(While the author of this article says that the West has a different view on marital relationships, it hasn’t been that long since the general view has shifted from what she described. And in some places, it probably hasn’t changed at all.)

DemiDemi is the guild master of Brigandia, Demiqas, and the YomeYome is Upashi.

Originally, Upashi was just a character with a couple of lines and had no name. She was given a sketch for Demiqas’ character expressions in the making of the anime, and she ended up getting more lines of dialogue with him. Her character design ended up as an unexpectedly beautiful woman with Mamiko Noto’s particularly refined, dignified voice; and in one fell sweep, Demiqas became seen as a total winner. Mamare and the viewers are probably cursing him now.

The YomeYome is cute, but DemiDemi still won’t yield.

もげろ！ (Mogero!)

Okay, Japanese internet slang has a term for expressing your jealousy that someone has a cute girlfriend/significant other. Mogero, もげろ！(rip it off), is apparently short for ちんこもげろ (rip your dick off) and essentially has the meaning of “go die.” (Apparently, you’ll hear the phrase a lot more around Valentine’s Day, according to some Japanese guy who asked what Mogero! meant.) Yeah, and that’s what the whole cursing thing is about too, being jealous that someone else has a girl when you don’t. The more you know...

Also probably why Japanese women don’t wanna get married or want to become their own yomes. Just saying.
