I love horror as a genre, but I am so worn out by horror as content. My halloween special talks about feeling fatigued from horror as content, as opposed to just disliking horror media. I feel that seeing so many ENDING EXPLAINED and FULL TIMELINE OF FNAF lore videos are a byproduct of the desire to just passively consume something and that's fine - my issue is that with horror content specifically, trying to ground the unfathomable and unknowable concepts of cryptids, creatures & settings into digestible packages also destroys my suspension of disbelief. That's my own problem, but that's why I fnd it hard to enjoy a lot of horror because it gets dissected and watered down before I can even blink.

A lot of great horror is still being made like Pearl, RE4R, Fear and Hunger, and Signalis, so I want to dismantle my jaded demeanor and (re)learn to love the genre I cherish the most.

My latest video is about a game I absolutely love, Lethal Company. This video talks about how its atmosphere is both hilarious and horrifying. Most co-op horror games lose their charm once your friends become super good at it, that isn't the case here. The game is chaotic to the point that risk mitigation is a pipe dream. Its flawless proximity chat, simple gameplay loop & charming presentation constitute one of the best horror multiplayer games in existence and it's only been two months.

Denji is often labeled a bad protagonist because of his simplistic dreams & shallow demeanor. But for a kid with no life experiences, no role models who lives in the face of constant suffering he proves time and time again that he is both kind and compassionate to others regardless of the nature of his dreams.

Chainsaw Man explores the theme of ignorance through a number of characters, and Denji is the perfect vehicle to navigate such a broad idea because of his inexperience in life. This video begins with a discussion of life as a series of transactions, before moving into how ignorance manifests in numerous characters in the story.

The pursuit of hype can bring out the worst consequences in gaming. Gamers end up with worse products, and developers are treated like machines to realise grandiose goals that might not be appropriate to their their development deadline.

Let's talk through some problems with (manufactured) hype and the problems it creates.

I'm tired of Metaverses, I'm sick of seeing billions of dollars thrown at social mediums nobody uses, to chase after solutions multiplayer games have already solved.

Look at Facebook/Meta's Horizon Worlds, a VR Metaverse:

$700 billion dollars wasted

An ego that has flown too close to the sun.

Players quit after just one month

Nothing is more disconnected from reality than developing a social platform that fails to connect people together in a shared context where they are free to socialise & express themselves.

32 weeks (8 Months, 3 real life seasons) for 1 free Legendary Skin or 17 weeks if you want a Battle Pass for free... the monetization in Overwatch 2 is egregious, even in the face of the ugly legacy of the lootbox system of Overwatch (2016).

This video looks at just how much of a waste of time Overwatch 2 is. It's a great game, that wants to trick you into thinking it's acceptable for Activision-Blizzard to rob you of your money.

This isn't about how the Loot Boxes are inherently good, but how an incredible sequel is marred by insatiable greed that prices free-to-play players out of having any player expression at all.

One Loot Box per hour > 60 Coins (0.6 USD) per week. This was never the solution.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) often cuts away from serious emotional scenes and dialogue with jokes, one-liners and quips because the writers are terrified of letting any genuine moments happen without breaking up the flow/atmosphere with jokes that say "Hey, look how self-aware we are guys - please laugh."

Despite their negative reputation, this video explores why one-liners are powerful tools for tapping into an audience's primal desire to see and hear cool shit. Lines that are unbound by trivial concepts like "cringe" or "cheesiness", because they are spoken in the Universal Language of RAWNESS.
