Upper Sixth
I don’t delude myself into thinking that pupils hang onto every word in assemblies, but I do hope that the messages conveyed help to nurture and share our values as an outward-looking and reflective community.
On Tuesday, Avneet, one of our Senior Prefects, delivered a beautiful assembly about what she had learned during her 16 years at Bablake. I had no idea what she was going to say, but she captured everyone’s attention as she advised the following:
Don’t take things too seriously
Prioritise your self-worth
Remember that things might not always go to plan
Be present in the moment – appreciate the now
Always be kind
This year’s Upper Sixth joined the school at about the same time I did. The last seven years have been interesting, not least because of Covid, but these pupils have come a long way in every respect. They have always been a superb year group and have achieved remarkable things in the classroom, in sport, in music, in drama and in many other activities, including charity fundraising and community service.
The Senior Prefects have been outstanding and I am very grateful for all that they have contributed to school life. We could not run the school without them and next year’s team have a lot to live up to.
The Upper Sixth depart today to begin study leave for their A level examinations. I am very proud of them and wish them every success, not only in their examinations, but in all their future endeavours. If they take Avneet’s words with them, they won’t go too far wrong.
