Carlton Cinema, Upton Park, London por Ken Roe Por Flickr: Many thanks to Clive Greathurst for allowing me to use his rare colour image of the original facade of the Carlton Cinema, Green Street, Upton Park in the east of London. It was originally published in 1929 by the Hathern Station Brick and Terra Cotta Company Ltd. as a promotion for their work on the terra cotta tiles on the Carlton's facade (Ivory Hathernware with Polychrome Enrichments). Sadly, the facade was destroyed by a German V2 rocket in 1945. The Carlton Cinema, Upton Park opened on 29th October 1928. It was designed by noted architect George Coles and the Egyptian style facade of the Carlton Cinema, Islington in north London survives today (again a George Coles design using Hathernware terracotta tiles). The Carlton Cinema, Upton Park re-opened in 1953 with a new modern facade. It became the ABC in 1961 and then the ACE in 1978, closing in 1983 and the auditorium was demolished in 1996. cinematreasures.org/theater/16467/
