URC 45 Hits Reno Before the Holidays and Taps this Year
Rick Collup's Ultimate Reno Combat was once again at the Reno Events Center for it's 45th show. This event will end the year for URC with a bang, Ten of them as a matter of fact. All ten bouts were drag out brawls including the two title fights that were matched perfectly.
The evening wasn't perfect to start with though as gremlins forced a 45 min delay in the fight action. Once the Sound and Video were back up the crowd need a t-shirt toss so reset the tone for the evening. Got to love free swag.
The action started with Balta De La Cruz (0-2) fighting with Academy of Striking & Grappling facing off against Angel Hernandez (2-1) from Final Round Fitness. Although Angel was the aggressor in this fight Balta did a great job of fending him off, at least for a while before he mistakenly dropped his hands leaving his melon open for a Roundhouse Head Kick to the lower jaw rendering De La Cruz jellied. Final stats were Round House KO at 2:42 of Round 1.
Terrance Ortiz (2-2) from Academy of Striking & Grappling went up against Trevor Simpson (1-1) out of Team Ronin. This was a decent showing from both fighters however Simpson kept Ortiz on his heels for most of this bout and by doing so earned himself the victory via Split Decision.
The Ladies entered the cage next in a rematch that had Jordan Raulston (1-1) of Reno Academy of Combat Facing Hailey Meyer (1-1) of Team Ronin. This fight went by so quick it was hard to believe it went to decision as Hailey Meyer seized the day with the it Decision.
Team Ronin was looking for a sweep with its third fighter Jean Francois Ratelle (3-6) but Reno Academy of Combat's Bryan Jones (4-2) had other plans. At 1:59 of Round 1 Jean made getting up his priority while being in a back mount, this was what cost him the fight as Bryan pounded Jean's face making the decision to stop the fight easy for referee Dan Stell.
At 1:30 of round one the fight between Academy of Striking and Grappling's Jovaughn Morgan and Team No Love's Rocky Batten was deemed a No Contest as Rocky was unable to continue do to an illegal and accidental kick to the midpoint by Jovaughn.
In the sixth fight of the night Sean Tucker (2-0) of Reno Academy of Combat took his undefeated record up against the seasoned amateur Terrell "Big Baby" Bosen (8-5) of Team No Love. Although Tucker had glimpses of having this fight in hand it was obvious that Bosen's experience kept calm and collected as he racked up the punch count in the first round and 1:52 seconds into the second round as he finished Tucker with ground and pound earning him a TKO. At some point in this fight Tucker's ear was blistered and then popped by the fists of Bosen. Hey Blood Happens!
The night continued with EJ Schmell (2-3) of Reno Academy of Combat trying to dirty up KRU Fight Team's Miguel Burbridge's (1-0) record. Schmell and Burbridge kept this fight mostly upright checking, and punching for three rounds. Schmell did a nice job countering Burbridge and avoiding any kind of pursuit that Burbridge posed. Schmell took a Unanimous Decision with 30-27's all around. Jeff Foley, Wade Vierra & Sean McCally.

The Academy of Striking and Grappling having a tough night had one remaining fighter on this card. Dale Jackson (5-7) had plenty of experience on his side when he faced Team No Love's Carlos Velazques (0-0). Carlos still doesn't have a full round under his belt as he only lasted 0:34 seconds before he Tapped out to Dale's Guillotine Choke.
***ISCF Amateur MMA 125 URC Title Fight***
Brando Amaro (3-0) of Reno Academy Combat faced off against Isaiah Wright (4-2) from KRU Fight Team. It took Two rounds and 0:22 of the Third for Brando to hurt Isaiah and once he did Isaiah went down but was able to regain his feet but leaned heavily on the cage and could only cover up and Referee Hal Morgan stopped this Title Fight due to Strikes.
***ISCF Amateur MMA 170 URC Title Fight***
The final fight was between Danny Ramirez (4-1) Mountain Warrior Fight Team and Aarason Perry (4-0) of Ironpit Fight Team. It was fairly clear through this 5 round battle that Aarason was fight from behind shortly after the fight began. However credit to Aarason who never believed that this was a disadvantage to him as he kept pressing often getting caught and leading the crowd, whom you could here alternating chants for both fighters, that this fight was over. Aarason fell well short of his goal as Danny Ramirez won by unanimous decision 48-47 on all 3 judges cards, Jeff Foley, Wade Vierra & Dan Stell.
