Transliteration:

Tabdeelii laani thi khud mein,

Toh  padh liya Urdu.

Tabdeelii laani thi uss mein,

Toh bol liya Urdu.

Translation:

I wanted to bring about my own transformation,

So I read/learnt Urdu.

I wanted to bring about a change in him/her/them,

So I spoke in Urdu.

.

I believe that words do shape you and when we speak to others politely, they are capable of change too. And Urdu is a language of the angels.

Tabdeelii: A change of form, direction, or the like; transformation; conversion; turning.

This is my journey of learning the Urdu script.

September 2019: I was at the library and I saw this middle-aged (probably in their 40s) Muslim couple studying/reading together. I couldn't make out what they were speaking and didn't want to eavesdrop so I continued with my own work. I don't know what it was about them, the whole atmosphere at the library, to me, became so sweet and hopeful. I don't know who was teaching whom, but I couldn't help but notice the books (English and Urdu). It moved me.

19th October, 2019: I start watching Zindagi Gulzar Hai because, a few years back, my best friend was obsessed with it and I was terribly missing her. It was my first time watching it, and I learnt and unlearnt many things, but I'm not gonna bore you with that.

21st October, 2019: I have the blessed opportunity to come across aamozish while looking for "learn Urdu script", and that is when I began my journey.

31 October 2019: I can read and understand Urdu (being brought up in a Muslim family, it's relatively easier for me to make sense of the words). Although, my vocabulary is nowhere near average. My parents had once tried to teach me Urdu, but I didn't appreciate it enough back then and learnt the script because I had to. This time I want to.

I finished my course from their website and a few days back I had written something but didn't want to share until I could write Urdu. It's like a personal token.
