REI PLEASE HELP ME
I'm SOOOOOO INTO GYUTARO RN😩😩😩
At times like this I can only bring you back to your roots....
HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN ABOUT THIS SIX EYED DEMON DADDY?????? HUH???
AND THIS FLAME DADDY????? HUH?????
Vampblr...let it go...that's not what he meant....
I know you say that Cas' coat symbolizes Heaven's control of him but I never thought of it that way. It always just represented Castiel as a character (in 4.20 when Jimmy put it on, in season 7 when he died and Dean held onto it and gave it back to him after remembering who he was, and how in season 11 Lucifer sometimes didn't have it on), and it only reinforced that last episode by Cas taking off his coat before doing something he didn't want to do. ||| Sidenote: I love your blog so much! ❤❤❤❤❤
Hi!
Sorry gif heavy below, but, I just can’t with all this stuff it’s all just so textually bringing the subtext to the surface and I’m living for it.
The coat doesn’t just symbolise Heaven’s control over him per se like in a brainwashing / outside of his control way but it symbolises his own sense of duty, it’s his emotional armour, it symbolises his past, his soldier status, who he has always been told and struggles with thinking he should be instead of who he really is inside.
It’s a visual metaphor of his facade that he has had imposed on him, now imposes on himself and which suffocates who he really is underneath, which to be released is his endgame.
The tie also symbolises duty, again it’s a whole package, the coat and tie came off when he was free from Heaven and his past and able to focus (more, though not completely) on what he wanted to do when he was human, then he gets the coat back and ultimately the tie too because of his feelings of duty towards Claire and guilt over his past. DUTY. Again!
So… you’re saying in 13x14 Cas did something horrible to Donatello that he did out of a sense of duty because there’s a potential Heavenly Apocalypse and he’s a warrior so he has to fulfil his role as a soldier and also take ownership of the things he’s done to create this threat too (as do Dean and Sam). Even though that’s not what he wanted to do or who he really is?
Then sure, because it aids the cause he goes after Donatello, but actually he goes on to melt Donatello’s brain and be utterly ruthless about it because he hurt Dean and Cas is emotionally compromised about it. That’s what happened. Donatello was off and weird and Cas was side eyeing him, he hurt Sam and they kind of all got on with it, then he hurt Dean and Cas was literally done:
This is entirely accurate:
Not in a fanon shippy way, in a this is actually canon and can we all just accept already that Dean and Cas is romantic and a part of the story because honestly the canon of the show makes zero sense without it now.
As per this ^ as a prime example. AGAIN.
Cas drapes what he’s doing to Donatello in the flag of a duty to the cause but ultimately it all comes down to saving one human, Dean.
I MEAN WHERE HAVE WE HEARD THIS BEFORE?!
Cas always says what he’s doing is because of duty and sure a lot of what he does is about duty, but sometimes it’s not, it’s emotional, it’s often about Dean in that case and well, this is exactly what happens here.
And he takes the coat off to do this, to show us that this is personal, he’s emotional about this, it’s not really because of Heaven and the Apocalypse but because of what he did to Dean, because he’s a threat to the people he loves that he got so down and ruthless about it.
So… yeah!
Sorry nonny you’re super polite and sweet but you literally just made your own argument for why the coat represents his sense of duty and his old soldier of Heaven persona instead of who he really is underneath the coat and by taking the coat off he shows that this is absolutely personal and not about duty ;)
