They want to scream, already planning a patent-pending Methyd Power Cry (as Heidi has lovingly dubbed it, and the name caught on through their friend group) in the staff bathroom in the back as soon as Jan comes in to take over in the afternoon. They know that they’re desperate, but something about this woman being here, being in a relationship? It fills them with an emotion they can’t even begin to describe, and they can’t figure out why.

They know this woman is queer and flourishing—she has a gorgeous girlfriend (they assume, they can’t see a ring), and they’re adorable together, even if Methyd is so pathetically lonely that seeing them in a happy relationship makes her feel ill.

The tote used to be one of their favorites back when they first ordered a second batch of pride totes. They don’t think that’s the case anymore.

Crystal slides into the seat across from Jaida and starts talking before she even has the time to look up.

“Jai, I swear I’m going to cry if I see her one more time today. She’s so pretty it’s not even real.”

“M'kay, you cry at everything. What’s new?”

“She smiled at me today,” Crystal admits quietly, anticipating the reaction that this will pull from the girl across from her. 

“Bitch…” Jaida doesn’t need to say any more, not when both of them know exactly what she’s trying to get at. The patented Jaida Essence Hall unimpressed look says all it needs to say.

“I can’t go talk to her, what would I say? ‘Hey, you’re, like, the hottest person I’ve ever seen and I can’t get you outta my head’? Like that’d go well,” she huffs, before folding over the table and burying her head into the crook of her arm. “I’m just going to be sad and gay and alone forever.”

“Have you tried talking to her at least?” Jaida asks, and when Crystal peeks up at her she’s sporting an amused-yet-exasperated look. “Or are you just never gonna try?”

She groans, leaning back and sliding down in her chair. “No, I haven't tried. But you should see her! It’s not my fault!” And it’s true, at least in her mind. She was intimidatingly, strikingly pretty, with put-together outfits that always fit her like they were made for her and long, red hair. How could she talk to someone like that? “Ugh, I literally can’t stop thinking about her, I’m losing my mind.”

“I can’t handle both of you,” Jaida mutters, seemingly to herself.

“Both of us?”

“Girl, that’s Gigi. Your little crush? I’ve known her for years, she’s just as bad as you are. You’d know that,” she shoots her another look, “if you had went and talked to her.”

“But what if she hates me?”

Jaida groans. “I love you, girl, but you’re going to kill me one day.”

Hello from Puerto Vallarta!

I saw my family right before coming here. My grandma makes the best tortillas in the world, so I made sure to eat my weight in them before setting out. It’s always nice to see her. But I’m in Puerto Vallarta! It’s so pretty, the beaches are so nice and I’m so excited to be eating actual authentic food instead of my attempts to cook for us. You would never eat my food again if you had it here, I swear.
