Americans - contact your representatives

I know it seems really stupid and dystopian to be emailing people not to bomb other countries, but it would be really good to reach out to your Representative, both your senators, and the White House to immediately stop attacking Iran. The war is deeply unpopular even here, but we must make that known loud and clear to the people in charge.

If you aren't sure who your Rep or your senators are, you can check here. They'll have a personal site with their phone number to call, or an online form to leave a digital comment.

Even if you live in a deep blue area, it's important to make sure your reps know this is important to you.

Even if you live in a deep red area, it's important to add your voice.

If the people who want this war to continue think no one is paying attention or that no one cares, they'll keep going. If elected politicians know enough people oppose this, they'll have to take a stance if they want to keep their office. Make it hard--make them justify why they aren't speaking out against this. Make them stop!

Keep up the pressure--contact them multiple times! You can use strong language (personally I think "morally reprehensible" and "war crimes" are both appropriate) but keep it as rational as you can.

There is a limited amount to what we can do--but this is something, and it's not hard.

Congress is considering bills expanding the ability to carry weapons concealed across state lines, so this would be a GREAT time to reach out to your 1 Representative and 2 Senators to tell them what a fucking dumb idea this is.

Everytown for Gun Safety has a summary of the bills and a form letter you can send HERE, although as always I recommend tacking on a personal message for extra oomph, particularly if you yourself have been impacted by gun violence in any way.

I’m really pissed about how damn hard it is to get the new COVID vaccine in some parts of the US, so here has been my process so far. Starting last week:

Scheduled an appointment to get the shots (flu and COVID); the pharmacy had a note saying that the COVID vaccine requires a fucking prescription in my state.

Messaged my primary care dr to ask for a prescription.

Received a response back from a random assistant or someone that was just the CDC guidelines for the vaccine. Which, given I was asking for a prescription for it, I think should have been clear I already knew.

Got a second response (from another assistant) saying that sending the guidelines is just the general response they’re sending to everyone. (Which is just dumb and I can only see as an attempt to convince people they don't need the vaccine.) At this point, they offered to let my dr. know I was requesting a prescription and asked what pharmacy to send it to.

I do have a dr. appointment scheduled two days before the vaccine one (for a different health issue that I would probably otherwise cancel at this point because I kinda don't like my doctor), so I can ask in-person if I need to but HOLY FUCK THIS IS RIDICULOUS. Previous years? Schedule appointment online with pharmacy. Get vaccines. Easy enough. THIS SHIT? It’s fucking useless red tape and paperwork that isn’t needed, is designed to convince people to not get the vaccine for a virus that is still a pandemic and a danger, and is taking away time for health providers to respond to shit that actually needs their attention.

'Improvements to the bus stops' they said. Yeah, moving the stops past the lights, out of the shade, and away from benches is a real fucking 'improvement.' No trash cans, no shelters, just new concrete that does shit for the rest of the barely-existent sidewalk and a motherfucking shiny pole for the sign.
