Monster type: Trickster (Motivation: To cause chaos)
The Dissenter is a demon which thrives on causing disunity and disharmony, in tearing apart people and communities through lies and manipulation.
In its natural state, the Dissenter resembles a human like creature of indeterminate age and gender, their skin if a patchwork of different colors; reds, blues and yellows, with long fingers with blackened claws and a leering, hateful face. Their hair is long and sickly green and they are dressed in a dirty tattered cloak. It is rare to see a Dissenter in their natural state however, as this demon can assume human form.
The Dissenter will infiltrate some sort of group or movement with laudable and noble groups; a grass roots movement protesting unjust laws, a political movement trying to elect an honest mayor, an environmental group trying to prevent the destruction of a nature site. Once the Dissenter infiltrates a group, they set about trying to destroy it from within; driving wedges between people over petty differences, gatekeeping and demanding purity tests, digging up and exaggerating past mistakes or questionable acts of members, by the time the Dissenter is done, the movement all but disintigrates with members at each others throats over petty rivalries and disagreements. Anyone who proves impervious to the Dissenters manipulations are dealt with in a more direct manner; the Dissenter isolates them and then slices them to bits with their long wicked claws.
In addition to their shape shifting powers, the Dissenter can know the past of a target through looking them in the eye, allowing them to know what secrets they keep and what buttons they need to press to make them snap. They can also will into existence false evidence that they can use against their victims; False newspaper articles, internet posts, they do not hold up under scrutiny, but they rarely need to.
The Dissenter has one major weakness; they are not permitted to tell the whole truth; everything they say must at least partially be a falsehood. If it speaks a whole unvarnished truth, they lose their power and revert to their true form, at which point they can be slain permanently.
