One of the characteristics of the leopard is that in case it wounds a man and a mouse urinates on the wound, the man dies. It is very difficult to keep the mouse away from one wounded by a leopard. I love this bit. The idea that someone was bitten by a leopard, once, and a mouse peed on it and it got infected and he died, and that had people in medieval Syria completely convinced that every time someone died from an infected leopard wound, it was because no matter how careful they'd been, a mouse had peed on it when they weren't looking, amuses me endlessly.

I mean Usamah was basically this 90-year-old warrior-poet-hunter-aristocrat telling jokes and anecdotes, so it's entirely possible this bit is just him fucking with the reader, but even if it is, it's great.
