Watching one of the greatest used bookstores I’ve ever visited close down is a special kind of depressing. I’ve bought so many volumes there over the years. They’re switching to a web-only business, but never again being able to wander the shelves of the quirky little downtown building is a saddening thought. If you haven’t been here, you can never even imagine the literal three story maze of rooms going in every direction. Different shapes, sizes, and layouts; each room was a delight and was filled with books. I’d discover staircases I had never seen before, always leading to more books. I realize I might not have even visited every room (this place is enormous). I think I did, but just this summer I discovered a section I’d never visited. I wonder what else I had failed to discover? Some rooms, in the basement, were always unlit and were literally pitch black; I would shop with a flashlight. Legend has it these rooms held a speakeasy during Prohibition, a house of prostitution at one point, and there are even whispers of hauntings. The owners were always so kind, and always had time to chat with me. I will miss this place. Goodbye, Eborn Books. You will be remembered, and missed. #books #bookstore #usedbooks #usedbookstore #saltlakecity #utah #ebornbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/B3AnxcdBYJv/?igshid=uerzu8unh1wi
