the good thing about having no home team in the world cup is that you can root for anyone for no particular reason. like maybe you just root for them bc their goalie has cool hair? no one is allowed to judge you.

The World Cup in Russia kicks off this summer but the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team has yet to qualify. Among the teams in so far: Germany (defending champion), Brazil, Belgium, England, Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain, and, as host, Russia qualifies automatically. For the U.S., the simplest way to add its name as a World Cup qualifier (for the eighth straight tournament) is to win tonight.

The Americans seemed more than capable of competing against an England team that was loaded with superstars and had previously gotten to the European Championship final. The USMNT players did appear dejected as they left the field to cheers; perhaps they were angry that they weren't able to get the win they may have deserved. The game's midfielder Weston McKennie told reporters, "We had the most of the opportunities; we were more dangerous, but we just couldn't find the back of the net." Given that the USMNT has never lost to England in a World Cup, any frustration won't last long.
