I get so annoyed when people think I'm lying whenever I talk about how Sanji has a soft spot for Usopp or how those two can in many ways be compared to Luffy & Zoro in terms of closeness like....it's not my fault you weren't paying attention to the very real & intentional bffness Oda has fostered between them!!

the fact that usopp easily has one of the saddest backstories for the strawhats but it gets glossed over bc yk… it’s usopp… and bc oda seems to hate him seeing how spent like 0.2 seconds on it. like the whole reason he started lying in the first place, let’s talk about that!! and the reason that he kept lying after after yassop left and his mama died was to cope with the loss of both his parents? all when he was like 7 years old, just a little kid!

like yea nami, robin, brook, sanji’s backstories are all sad but usopp is too. I mean he lost both his parents and seeing as how the town hated him I imagine he had nowhere else to go but to stay in the same house she died in nor did he have anyone serve as a parental figure like zeff with sanji, bellemere with nami. raising himself bc yassop punk ass wanted to ride shanks’ tip🧍🏾‍♀️. not to mention the usopp pirates were mad young and he only knew them for a few years like kaya so he was on his own for some time before they, and eventually, luffy, came around🙁 sorry he didn’t have a whole village or country crash and burn around him but his story is still tragic nonetheless

i could also go into how his backstory probably played a part into why his fight with luffy in water 7 was such a big deal but that’s a topic for another day. usopp centered arc when🦦
