USUALLY, Basira would lower her gun to show she means no harm. But nothing’s --well, nothing’s been usual since she lost Daisy...or perhaps more relevantly, since the world ended.
She’s been traveling across the continent since then, acting on every information from any source she’s managed to press on how to get to Daisy. She knows Jon is alive --perhaps it’s not Jon, perhaps it’s just the Archivist, but it doesn’t matter. If he’s the one that did this, he has to be the one that can undo this, and Basira doesn’t particularly care whether he’s willing to do it or not. Martin hasn’t called since the world ended, but she can’t allow herself to wonder whether he’s alive or not. Single-minded focus has served her best in the past; it’s what will get her to Daisy now. Daisy first, and then the world.
But it’s that same focus that has her distracted enough to stumble upon a man she’s sure she helped bury, even if it was dark that evening. Even if Basira’s seen so many corpses. Every instinct in her body tells her it’s far too late to backtrack, he’s surely spotted her, and running would just be stupid. So she aims her gun, more a baring of teeth than any actual action plan, and tries to slow her heartbeat. Just like during a shootout, her focus narrows. Now she remembers his name. “Crew, was it? Michael Crew?”
