“ Sometimes I can’t believe that you willing let people call you Gonorrhea,” she said grinning at the man before taking a sip from the bottle of beer. Everyone was in good spirits considering they had finally gotten their jump wings. It seemed that everyone was at least a little bit more tolerant of her seeing as she had earned her jump wings too. She hadn’t failed miserably or washed out like some of them had suspected she would. 

The brunette chuckled, the alcohol made her feel infinitely more relaxed than usual and a little bit bolder too.“ I don’t think I could think of a worse nickname even if I tried.”

“ What unit you from ?” Ellie asked the other casually as she took up the open seat next to him at the bar.  They had all finally gotten a weekend pass and the boys had insisted that she come out with them for the night. Now it seemed that all of Easy Company were drunk and Ellie wasn’t willing to play the babysitter tonight. Instead, she wanted to have a conversation with someone who wasn’t completely drunk and the man next to her seemed to fit the bill.

It’s not often that Ellie actually gets the luxury of getting a weekend pass. Her actually leaving post is even less frequent, but today she makes an exception to her normal routine. Her and the rest of the men can tell that they’ll finally be shipped of to Europe or the Pacific some time soon. She might as well treat herself while she still has the chance and that’s how she finds her self sitting outside of a little boutique that she can’t afford on the Army’s salary. How odd she must look sitting in her uniform in front of a store that’s selling the most beautiful dresses. Staring out the window a wishful sigh passes her lips. She had given up the life of a normal young women the second she had joined the Army, but it didn’t mean she couldn’t appreciate the dresses in front of her.

Ellie hadn’t intend to pout but watching each of the men go off to dance only to be left sitting at their table alone wasn’t exactly how she imagined the night going. It didn’t help that a lot of the women were around her own age. Had she not signed up for the Army would she be out there dancing with a young paratrooper? The answer was probably. She’d wear a pretty dress and have her dark hair done up in tight and neat curls.  She was so lost in thought, daydreaming about the life her female peers most have been living, that she hardly noticed the older man approach. It took her longer to process his words than she cared to admit. 

Was that appropriate? Was it fraternizing? Would everyone think badly of her if she accepted? It was only a dance, surely her career and reputation weren’t so fragile as to be destroyed by something so simple.

She smiled before taking the hand he had offered “I’d like that, thank you, though I’m warning you I don’t really know any of the slow dances.” Not the choreographed ones with the different steps that Nix was probably accustomed to.

Ellie had known from the very start that she’d be a medic. It was the only position they had been willing to give her, and even that had been begrudgingly, but she knew that wasn’t the case for the other medics. They hadn’t signed up knowing that they’d be responsible for the lives of others. Honestly, the women felt a little bit bad for those men but it did put them all in the same boat and considering that she was the odd one out in every situation she entered she was at least happy to belong to a group that could at least admire that she did have the skills necessary for the job even if she was a woman. 

The brunette plopped down on her bunk that was situated next to Eugene’s. Despite every day being an exhausting day it seemed that everybody liked to shoot the shit for at least a little bit before they all turned in for the night. Ellie always tried her best to join a conversation but that was easier said than done. “ I come bearing cards,” she said offering the other medic a smile as she fished the desk from the breast pocket of her shirt. “ Figured solitary with a partner might be better than playing alone for the second night in a row,” she offered.  She knew it was better to try to ease her way into friendships or even just camaraderie than trying to force it upon anyone. Pushing too hard sometimes just resulted in backlash and that was the last thing she needed.

Elizabeth had never once imagined joining the Army would be easy. She knew it would be hard work physically and mentally, but she had never imagined it would be so lonely.  Even training as a medic the others had looked at and treated her differently -- she didn’t expect anything less-- but at least there had been a few people willing to speak to her, instead of just whistling at her or asking what a broad was doing on an Army base like they were doing now as she walked to her newly assigned barracks. 

Elizabeth walked trying to exude the confidence that was required for any women who was walking into the lion’s den.  She had heard enough talk to know that Easy company had it the toughest here at camp Tocca. She had also picked up on the fact that all the men had a close bond over their hatred for their CO. As if being a women wasn’t enough to make it hard for her to subtly make her way into being part of the company being one of the medics who got to transfer in late would certainly do the trick. 

Gracefully taking the steps up to the barracks that would be here home for the next several months she let out a deep breath as she tried to calm her nerves. She stared at the door in front of her for a couple seconds before smoothing out the wrinkles of the olive drab skirt and straightening out her jacket -- she almost wished they hadn’t gave her the WAC dress uniform. It only made her stand out more-- she then pushed open the door to great the men that she’d be serving with.

“Sora, don’t do it.” The master huffed, arms crossing as she looked down at him as he eagerly bounded towards the glider floating quietly beside the castle of the Land of Departure. Aqua’s brow furrowed as he clambered onto Riku’s glider. “I’m telling you, don’t do it. You’re going to hurt yourself!”
