Today’s date in 1945 the Martin B-29 Superfortress V82 Enola Gay dropped a gun type uranium bomb on Hiroshima. City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Honshu, Japan.

“Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content?” was published September 27, 1905. In Annalen der Physik, a journal. This article/paper was written by Albert Einstein. It changed how we perceive in essence, nearly everything. Mass, gravity, time, and the relationship you and I bear to the cosmos.

I kind of obsess about these two dates. I understand the paper influenced science enough to make the bombing possible, but my understanding of the paper at all stops well before this connection. I also understand that the United States as a member of the Allied front in World War II, ordered the bombing. Murdering humans, and more.

My obsession isn’t about the mind of Einstein, or mindset of Allied command. It is about a simple premise: September 26, 1905 and September 28,1905 were two in a sequence of three days. The greatest portion of the population probably noticed nothing. The same is true for August 4, 1945, and August 6,1945.

The final element to explain my obsession. I was born well after August 6, 1945. I can’t understand living without these two massively influential events. Our world, the one we wake up in would be extremely different. How did they?

They did. From an historical perspective the change is essential… Seminal. From the perspective of millions at the time they were just days. I find this simple difference irresistible.
