Book Review: The Valentine's Hate - Sidney Halston (Potential Spoilers)
Rating: 🌕🌕 - 2/5 Title: The Valentine's Hate Author: Sidney Halston
Description: This is an enemies to lovers, fake engagement rom-com book. It's about Lissette Alonso "Lizzie" always hating Valentine's Day, ever since she met a certain someone - Brian Anderson. It started when she gave him a Valentine and he ripped it up in front of her, then throughout school, he couldn't stop torturing her, with the final straw being that he stood her up to prom. Years later after not seeing each other, they're forced to sit next to each other on the airplane, going to the same destination for different reasons. A ton of events happen that bring them closer together and their hatred for each other spins out into a fake relationship turned fake engagement.
Reason for Rating: I thought this was an okay book. One of the pros for me was that it's a shorter book, which means it left no pages for unnecessary details. There was a goal to the story and it nicely flowed. I think that was the best thing about this story. As soon as I read the part where Lizzie was at the hotel, I knew exactly what was going to happen, how it was going to happen, and how the rest of the book was going to go, and I was right. It's labeled a rom-com and I didn't find one thing comedic about it - I did not think it was funny or witty in the slightest. Overall, I thought it was a cute story, but extremely predictable.
