i have a character who thanks to a magical incident, her legs are numb from the knee down. they are otherwise healthy, she just can't feel them. would she need a mobility aid? what kind?

This depends on what you mean by "numb". Can she feel pain, temperature, or pressure?
Especially without pressure sensation, it will be difficult for her to move just because she will have trouble knowing where her body is in space--she might lose her footing frequently or trip over herself. Missing pain sensations may mean she frequently overworks herself or remains in a strenuous position, and causes muscle or tendon damage.
I'd say a cane for balance [maybe quad base] and possibly braces to help restrict unwanted movement (like frequent ankle twisting) would be helpful, but it does depend on exactly her symptoms and if she accidentally causes any further injury.
