... wait a minute. what's the timeline on the Volkihars again? because apparently the dragons were still kicking in Skyrim when Valerica sealed away Serana and went into the Soul Cairn, if the timeline with Durnehviir is to make any sense.

We're back in the Volkihar Headcanon Mines. This is a long and inconsequential ramble about video game npcs, but take my hand.
BROAD DISCLAIMER AGAIN: This is for fun, take it with the grain of salt that headcanons and lore interpretations require.
Prev - Harkon Isn't 1st Gen & Valerica Gave Him The Pureblood
Tldr on my prev post, I do not interpret Harkon as Ancient Ancient, I don't think he's a 1st gen recipient of the gift, and @the-radic0le convinced me that it was Valerica who turned him. Huge credit to him on this because I wouldn't have even remembered to sift through Valerica's dialogue without his idea, and to @bloodofblue who has also been combing through the story with us.
But first some edits on my thoughts about timeline and age: With some dialogue from ESO, I think he is actually near 1000, but not much older. That is entirely up to interpretation though, and so I lean toward my HC because I'm biased! 😂 But, in canon dialogue, the Volkihar Clan is noted as existing, as having a reputation, and is spoken of with assumption that they're established enough to "make moves against" another Vampire Lord (and Gwendis finds it odd that they're not doing so). That reason is later established as the opposing Lord being part of the Gray Host. Regardless of what they did or didn't know about Rada's Gray Host, I'm settling around the 2E300s as when the Volkihar Clan was established, putting them at a cool 200 years during the events of ESO: Greymoor - old enough to have a reputation, but maybe not old enough for Valerica and Harkon to be picking fights with more established Lords or getting even remotely involved.
Now, back to the Valerica stuff and the actual continuation of this HC...
Yeah So, Valerica For Sure Gave Harkon The Pureblood (And He's Still A Massive Hack Fraud)
Serana Volkihar they could never make me hate you. Valerica Volkihar they could never make me hate you. Harkon Volkihar you're on thin fucking ice
Can we talk about how underrated Valerica is? She's a master gardener and alchemist, and necromancer (Serana says Valerica taught her everything she knows, and Serana does a lot of necromancy). She's so intelligent that she found out where the souls in soul gems go! Most don't care, others would just guess any other afterlife. AND she opened a portal to said soul gem dimension?!
Then when Serana expressed her hurt at Valerica's actions, Valerica apologized. She made amends and told Serana that she'd support whatever decision she made; then gave her the Elder Scroll, despite spending centuries hiding it. She was confused by LDB's presence but loves and trusts her daughter enough to let you take such a precious item.
Valerica isn't the best mom but she has what many don't- the ability to apologize and fix her mistakes. She's brilliant and deserves a ton more respect than she gets.

─ Volkiharbor 2.1 - Harkon & Valerica NPC Replacers ─
small surprise update to the divorced parents if interested. I recently got to play Dawnguard for a good while, so wanted to re-vamp(huehue) them a bit again + to match them better with Seranade (eyes wise).
The mod visually replaces Harkon & Valerica. I've added a small pulsing glow map for Harkon in this update, similar to Miraakle cuz y not :- )

There was definitely love (TES:V)
I personally choose to believe that while regular vampires have the orange eyes, the Daughters of Coldharbour have glowy blue ones, kinda like the vampire eyes from the Underworld series,
It just seems kinda odd to me that the Most Powerful Vampire Matriarchs ™️ would have the same basic eyes as every other vampire out there, y'know?
