From Mercy Mirror Chapter 6.
Erandur did not sleep the night after Erlind was taken for questioning. He was not back by the time dinner was brought, a dinner that Erandur had no appetite to eat. The Vigilant who brought the dinner was the same who had taken Erlind, a young Redguard named Isran, who took pity on his worrying. "When I last saw them, they were unharmed." Vigilant Isran lingered by the door, crossing his arms. "I do not know if I've ever heard anyone shout at Keeper Carcette like that; nor about such a strange…event." Erandur frowned at him. "What do you mean?" "It isn't especially common we see people who claim to have been brought back to life, especially with such distress." Erandur's heart stopped for the briefest moment. What had Erlind said? What did Carcette know? Most importantly, what was going to happen now? Vigilant Isran tapped his fingers against his bicep briefly. "Keeper Carcette is holding vigil to commune with Stendarr overnight. Any judgement will be cast near dawn, but your acolyte will remain unharmed until then, no matter what sentence falls." "Are you allowed to be telling me this?" Erandur folded his arms into his sleeves, trying to draw comfort from the motion and knowledge. Vigilant Isran smiled ever so faintly, sardonic. "I was not commanded not to." The smile dropped. "And I grow weary of this charade." "Pardon?" "Your story about destroying a Daedric artifact was confirmed; Keeper Carcette sent a rider out after your arrival and the lingering magics proved truth, along with the corpses. By rights, we should simply thank you both and let you go." Vigilant Isran shifted to lean on the doorframe, his expression sour. "But instead of putting our effort toward genuine threats, here we stand, wasting time with a pair of Marans who did our job for us because Keeper Carcette did not take the reports seriously." "I see." Erandur was not entirely sure how else to respond, but he supposed this was good news of a sort. "If Keeper Carcette has ruled that we're telling the truth, why hold us here longer?"
I loved writing Isran for this portion of the story, and I look forward to seeing him again ~15yrs later for Dawnguard. And to seeing more Erandur on occasion, though I don't think they'll appear together again.
Wanted to test out some new brushes in procreate, so I doodled a couple of characters from Skyrim. Anyone got any favorite styles?
