When they came back to pick her up from Zozo, Celes wasn't there, replaced by some new guy with an airship. The others explained to her what had happened, and while Terra was having all sorts of confusing thoughts in her head, between trying to understand everything around her, and those comforting memories of being loved she had just gotten back, she could tell Locke was unhappy. His bond with Celes was special, after all. So she had gone to him, but had hesitated to speak. The conversation had to happen, neither of them could pretend Celes didn't exist and Terra could not avoid acknowledging the situation, but she didn't know what to say. And then she remembered how Sabin had shown her many times how to deal with these sort of unhappy feelings. "You are upset," she blurted out, to let Locke know she had recognized it, before tentatively raising a hand and then, with much more determination, patting his head twice. Her expression asked: better now? "Everything will be alright," she recited, before adding a sincere: "We will get her back."

It was a bit annoying to be downed by acts that on other days would not have caused her to break a sweat, Celes detested nothing more than appearing weak or needing. Today, had been a lesson in humility on that front for certain. Clearing her throat, drawing herself up as tall as possible, she addressed her new companion. " Locke, it is getting dark. It would be unwise to travel this close to the caverns after nightfall. We should make camp... " They had journeyed far enough and fast enough where the trooper force from the city would be unable to catch them this night. She knew the leader of the city quite well, likely not wanting to give the forces to the pursuit as it would distract from their cushy position overseeing the city. Most likely, Celes reasoned, they'd send scouts in the morning and hope the woods had finished her off. Biting her cheek to hold back a wince from her movements, Celes faltered in her stature only for a second. Eyes locked onto the thief in an effort to establish a sequence of command between them. They may have saved her from execution, but that did not mean she gave trust blindly. ( @valiantseeker )

The youth who was entrusted with keeping the shard of the Phoenix Esper safe was wandering through a vast forest, he made sure to lay low in case anyone approaches.

Each time that danger did approach and he would have to use magic, it placed a strain on his body given that the shard was embedded in the back of his neck and seemed to be entwined with his life force.

He made sure to take breaks as it was best to be careful, he continued to wander until he reached a nearby town.

He gets out a cloak that he got earlier and puts it over himself to hide away, sharp eyes darting around as he notices some of the guards from that horrible empire the others from thamasa warned him about. He made sure not to get their attention, if they notice that he had the shard of the Phoenix Esper, they might want to capture him to take to their leader and there was no way he wanted that to come true as that meant the removal of said shard.

The boy made sure to carry a weapon with him, a chained sickle that he crafted that he now kept attached to his belt as it was always good to have something for protection need be it.

He continues forth.

Edgar inhales sharply, taking his sweet time to exhale. He's nervous. For once, he doesn't even try to hide it - his finger tapping nervously on his own arm, the fact that he's been pacing back and forth for a good ten minutes, the low muttering under his breath and the fact that Locke actually managed to make him jump slightly were hard to ignore, after all.

It's... embarrassing. A King shouldn't get so nervous. A King shouldn't be so openly worried.

A King should to better--

"I know."

He finally stops. Takes another breath, avoiding eye contact.

"It's just... you've seen her reaction." his gaze move to the door on the opposite side of the room, behind which Terra and Sabin were sleeping "She doesn't want to fight, and we can't really blame her, but--!"

Ancient ruins and the strange machinations that spewed forth from them were a consistent issue in Valisthea. That's why people were ordered to stay away from such places, but that didn't mean the things inside didn't occasionally come spewing forth.

And in Sanbreque it was on the Holy Dragoons to deal with it.

Dion had assembled a team and pressed forward through the ruins-- fighting strange robotic contraption after strange robotic contraption. There seemed to be no end to them.

However, there was one thing he didn't expect to find.

A man.

And his choice of attire made him stand out against the grungy metal of the ancient ruins.

"Shit. Were their people crawling around in here?" Dion swore loudly as he ran over to the man, "Hey! Hey!! Get a hold of yourself!" He gently shook the other before placing his ear to the other's chest to listen for a heartbeat

"I don't know... Locke... I bring death wherever I go... And this is different, I wasn't being mind-controlled, I chose to believe Gestahl, I told the espers to follow us. They came to Thamasa for me. Because they trusted me. I led to their deaths."

And if Kefka hadn't lied, he had been using her all along, everything she had done was a part of his plans. "I should not have joined the Returners, I should have found a cave and hidden there like they do. People's lives would be easier if I had."

𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐦. When Celes had awoken on that small, desolate island months ago, she had been convinced that she was utterly alone. Cid, having passed on so soon after her awakening, had left her wondering what the point in saving her had been if she was to die alone in an empty world ? How it had been the very bandana that was missing from the silhouette she'd longed most to see again, fastened as a bandage for a bird that had given her two very important realisations. There was still hope, still things to fight for when all was lost... and that Locke had survived. Or, at least he had not died in the devastation that claimed millions. There was hope he still lived.

Celes felt like she had been living with tension in her very soul, even as her heart grew lighter with each step they made in finding their friends. It was a tension that she knew would only be released once she knew where and what had happened to Locke, regardless of how happy the reveal would end up being. Now that he was here, everything she had been thinking and feeling fell flat on her tongue. Her words didn't feel adequate enough for how Celes now truly believed they could win now, as there was no universe in which she'd lose him again. Instead, she gazed across the deck of the Falcon to where he sat. Trying to find her voice, afraid that if she looked away for even a second, that he might be lost to her once more.
