Valide Hafsa Sultan - Muhteşem Yüzyıl, ep. 13
Merve Boluğur as Nurbanu Sultan in “Magnificent Century”
CECILIA VENIER BAFFO x NURBANU SULTAN
Valide catching strays (or very deserved criticisms)
A very purple meeting commences in Hürrem's room after Victoria tries to assasinate Süleyman. Valide Sultan blames Daye for trusting the girl but Daye is already pissed at İbrahim (see this post) and will not be taking the blame for him. She says it was İbrahim who brought her in.
Nigar will not have İbrahim blamed. She stops them and boldly says that it was Valide who trusted Victoria and gave her money and made her her personal servant.
She became very daring after the stunt she pulled with Mahidevran and became Hünkar Kalfası. She teased Hürrem too but the Valide? That is bold indeed. Thankfuly Daye still has her back and decides to lay it on the Valide too.
Daye also very boldly says it was Valide who named the girl Sadıka (Loyal Woman) and the side eye she recieves for it is glorious.
After this, the purple council is distracted by Hürrem sleep-talking but Nigar will save Hürrem too like she saved İbrahim, she is on a winning streak. She explains Hürrem is just scared.
Right after this scene we cut to a Matrakçı in distress and I was sure Nigar was going to save him too. Alas, she wasn't there.
In the gardens we see Hatice being forlorn again because she is upset İbrahim didn't see her. İbrahim was ignoring her and brushing off her questions for a while now but that deserves it's own compilation, if anyone's interested I could do that.
I love how Valide finally says it like it is to Hatice. She is sick of her anxieties. But we came to the garden for another reason and that is so Mahidevran and Hürrem can lay it on Valide as well.
Mahidevran says that Hatice is right and Valide is wrong, she says that it was wrong of İbrahim to ignore them. Hatice is shocked by this as people often call out her delusions and not agree with them.
Now this was a different topic to criticise Valide about but seeing Mahidevran also calling out Valide just as everyone else does it was interesting.
Right after this, Hürrem is invited to sit with them, Valide is always so happy when Hürrem enters a room but immediately regrets it soon as Hürrem opens her mouth. She never likes anything Hürrem says. Here Hürrem says that she named her newly gifted horse Aşk (Love) and Valide just doesn't like that.
Well Hürrem doesn't like that Valide had sent Victoria, a killer, to sleep with Süleyman. She says it plainly and in fornt of everyone. Valide is not catching a break.
Of course there is nothing to say after this. Hürrem is right and Valide just shuts up, so it is up to Hatice to tell their slave off and send her to her room without her meal. Hürrem takes a while to do it but does leave.
The reason I compiled this is this, Valide's power is going down the drain as characters become bolder. I connect it to the fact that she did jack all aside from hiding her jewels during the Janissary rebellion. Sümbül made all the decisions and Daye enforced them. Sümbül said down to cellars and down she went. She didn't try to speak with the Janissary, calm them down, ask them what's what.
She made a show of not eating but when Mahidevran asked when they could leave the cellar she just said pray? Pray? How about you tell us your son will come and save us?
So Valide is losing long before her death.
Difference between magnificent century! Hürrem Sultan and demet altınyeleklioğlu books! Hürrem Sultan:
Books Hürrem
Her full name is Alexandra Anastasia lisowska (between the concubines her name is ruslana, to the west her name is roxelana, to Süleyman she is Hürrem. Yes, girly has identity crisis in this one.)
She has dark red hair, and wide blue eyes that is mistaken for green (the author is obsessed with describing her eyes in any given opportunity shdbd.)
She has no siblings, her father is a priest named Nikola.
She was stolen from her home at eight, a Tatar named taçam Noyan stole her (he would later become her father figure.)
She was almost r@ped at this age, but taçam killed the man before he could go further.
She was brought as a gift to the Crimean royal family, she grew there until she became fifteen.
When she went back to her village in Ruthenia, she finds it empty. But she finds stuff in her house, the only things left from her Homeland: a broken plate, torn curtain fabric, the broken icon of mother Mary, and a white wedding dress fabric (it would later be her wedding gift to hatice), this would become her dwory and her everything until she dies.
She has a friend that would be with her until death, the Tatar girl merzuka, she would be her handmaiden in the palace.
At fifteen, aybala hatun (valide sultan's relative), who was very close to Alexandra, dies, and in her will, she asked for Alexandra to go and become the queen for the ottoman, for she had seen a dream where Alexandra holds a falcon, and she flies with it (she would tell Alexandra of that too).
The Crimean king was to send gifts in a ship to his nephew Süleyman, and upon hearing aybala's will, Alexandra was placed as one of the gifts in the ship.
She was a big rebel in the harem, demanding that she would be taken to valide sultan and talk to her about the will (she gets beaten by sümbül ağa every time, also, sümbül is black, and there is a daye hatun btw).
She stays there for a whole year before she could see Süleyman.
In the harem, she meets a Russian girl named Katerina, who slept with Süleyman only once. Katerina teaches her 'love' lessons and tips so she could seduce süleyman. (How does she learn? They have sex, and soon Alexandra learns that Katerina is a lesbian. In fact, all harem girls are lesbian, said that if they can't have a man do them, they'll do each other dhdbdbdb).
She sings in the harem, her voice would be echoing in the palace, this is how süleyman would later notice her.
She befriends Hatice Sultan, the one who would talk to valide about her.
In order to be noticed, Hürrem bribes sümbül to have sex with her, and he would tell valide about her and praise her.
The valide immediately loves her and considers her her daughter (Alexandra calls her mother Hafsa).
Upon insistence from his sister and mother, süleyman personally comes to the harem to see her, they have a sweet talk, he likes her immediately, they fall in love (Süleyman had already sold his soul when he heard her sing then), and he gives her the name "Hürrem". His smiling sun.
He would ask her to sew a purple handkerchief (her favorite color ever), then he would take it from her. Meaning he wants her in his bedroom jdnddm.
She kills a Greek girl who suspected that she and sümbül screwed, no one knows of this, sümbül himself was later killed by taçam Noyan without her knowledge.
(there is a five or six pages long sürrem sex sndbdb.)
(will continue.)
Hello! May I ask if there were incidents in Magnificent Century where Hürrem picks a fight with someone unnecessarily? I'm trying to convince myself that Hürrem is a mere mortal and not someone you put on a pedestal. Thank you!
“Unnecessary” might not be the right word for it, but I always thought that Hürrem could be bit more diplomatic with Valide during the Isabella arc. Valide was being nasty to her by inviting Isabella to the palace, but Hürrem directly threatening Valide caused the deaths of Nilüfer, her own horse, and a lot of unnecessary grief. Hürrem would become a threat for Valide sooner or later if she married Süleyman, but I don’t know, Hürrem’s lack of restraint in this instance still caused a lot of grief prematurely.
(Please don’t get me wrongly, Valide is trash and Hürrem was in the right, but she could be less open about her feelings to her for the sake of diplomacy.)

Kuruluş orhan | season 1 ~ 2025-?
...The faces they made weren't because of the sharbat.
The way Hatice and the Valide showed nothing but love towards Alex’s kids despite the fact that they hated their mom is a bit unrealistic. Maybe that’s not the best word to use but coming from my personal experience, the kids rarely get treated this fairly
