Perhaps because the nearby ski resorts Prato Nevoso and Limone Piemonte are easier to access, especially when it comes to public transport.⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ First take the train from Turin (Torino Porta Nuova station) to Savigliano. Then you need to catch two buses: one to Saluzzo, followed by another to Pontechianale. This tiny medieval hamlet is located deep in the Varaita Valley close to the French border.⁣ ⁣ Come here in winter and see how this village is quite literally frozen in time, somewhat resembling the nativity scene.⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ Take the train from Turin to Savigliano. ⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 50mm | 1/640s | f/14 | ISO 100⁣ Taken on 31/01/2021.⁣ ⁣ Everyone likes National and International Days to the extent that they allow us to discover and rediscover some of the most beautiful places in the entire globe.⁣ ⁣ Not that there is a need for a scheduled day; however, it is one more chance for us to appreciate the world we live in.⁣ ⁣ And so today is it is on the occasion of the 'Giornata Nazionale del Paesaggio' (National Landscape Day) that was inserted into the calendar by the Italian Ministry for 14th March with the aim of promoting landscape culture and raising awareness among Italian – or at least reminding them – of just how lucky they are to live in 'il Belpaese' (the Beautiful Country).⁣ ⁣ Nothing gets more beautiful than snow-capped mountains in the Alps on a sunny winter's day. In this shot I wanted to place particular emphasis on the sheer height and might of the mountain peaks in stark contrast to the tiny hamlet of Chianale, the last village of the Varaita Valley before the Col Agnel mountain pass that winds up the Cottian Alps and leads into France.⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ Take a bus from Saluzzo (line 106) with 'BusCompany'. ⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 35mm | 1/400s | f/10 | ISO 100⁣ Taken on 17/07/2020.⁣ ⁣ Spanning 60 kilometres with an altitude ranging from 400 to 2748 metres above sea level, the 'la Valle Varaita' is one of the most spectacular valleys in the Italian Alps.⁣ ⁣ Few valleys in the Alps are as rich in vegetation and medicinal herbs as Valle Varaita, bearing the name 'the emerald valley'.⁣ ⁣ Not only does Valle Varaita boast lakes, ancient villages and silent clearings, but it is also dominated by the majestic Monviso massif that can be reached via a number of routes leaving from Pontechianale.⁣ ⁣ Here's a snapshot of the tiny village of Castello which means 'castle'—quite a deceptive name given it hasn't got one.
