My Vampire Live Domain #2
(I play a Toreador) 1. Last time I told the Seneshall that I find no member of my clan suitable for being Primogen. She was pissed. I told on the wannabe-harpy, because he was rude to our Anchilla. Everyone was even more pissed. 2. A member of my clan kidnapped me. Staying at wannabe-harpies hotel now. I am advised not to leave. (Wannabe-harpy is in Paris, though) 3. Clan Tremere is very interested in me and has written me several letters and invitations (even for their lectures about thaumaturgy). That makes me feel uneasy. 4. Wannabe-harpy is now Primogen. Shit. 5. Friendly reminder for myself: Be nice to Primogen/Wannabe-harpy - stab him in the back later.
At Vampire Live today
Argued loudly with the player that wants to be the future harpy.
Reason: It was my first evening in this domain and he (another Toreador) wanted to tell me he didn’t respect our Primogen, that he had better insight, better status than her. I asked him why. He said he was a rising star in the Camarilla, and was surprised I didn’t know. He was a newborn just like my character. (And in my opinion, if you have to tell people you’re the rising star, you aren’t) He tried to give me orders and I asked him, what status entitled him to do that and that my guidance would be our Primogen. I asked him if he treated all new guests of the domain that way.
Prince and GMs were very delighted. Still hope he won’t be the new harpy.
One of the most discussed questions is about the core resolution mechanics of our new Vampire: The Masquerade product. Specifically, are we planning to keep Rock-Paper-Scissors? The answer, simply, is yes. It's easy to learn, fluid to play, and can be implemented in any game setting from your own home to a crowded nightclub. We understand that RPS has been problematic in previous editions: nobody likes the fact that roughly 66% of the time you either win or lose and your character sheet really doesn't matter. We are exploring ways in which the RPS system can provide a much more satisfying experience for players by making their character sheets really matter to the outcome of every challenge and test. Just like a d10 does not define the systems that use it, our Mind's Eye Theatre products will be defined by the rules built around this mechanic and not the mechanic itself. We humbly ask that you judge it by these rules as we release them and not what has come before. And now we open the virtual floor to discussion - please leave us your feedback in the comments.
How did you first discover Mind's Eye Theatre?
A lot of players have been asking "who the hell are you people, anyway?" To answer that, we made this video to introduce ourselves and talk about our vision for our first product. It was all done in one take - those 'ums' and 'ahs' weren't intentional!
Our core goal is to produce a book that reflects twenty years of learning from the community. We want to make a product that reflects how Mind's Eye Theatre is played today - and also something that will be playable far into the future. This will be a product with scalable rules, that can be played by the smallest troupe of friends or the largest global game. It will be book that has beautiful art, one that incorporates different facets from the full Vampire: the Masquerade franchise in a way that is designed for the LARP community. And yes, it will have a full index!
We know everyone is very interested in the rules - how they will be changed, what the core mechanics are, etc. We will be releasing updates to the community as frequently as we can, starting this month. This isn't to torment or tease you. We are still alpha-testing our rules and want to ensure what we present to the community has been fully vetted. We will make sure you can see some of these pieces well before our Kickstarter so you can judge for yourself what you will be supporting. There will also be opportunities to playtest these rules. Your feedback in this process is vital to us. In fact, the several hundred comments we have already received via our various social sites have already gone to our staff of writers and game developers. So thank you!
We hope you enjoy our video introduction. And, what's more, we hope you enjoy being a part of this process. It's going to be an exciting year for Mind's Eye Theatre!
