He was just... just starving. And the blood he got, it was never enough. Never enough! Something was missing in it, something so important, something satisfying.
He was in a garden. He didn’t know where, he didn’t know when, he didn’t know how he got there.
All he knew was deep, painful hunger.
And when Chase walked up to him he lunged.
Chase’s scream died with a choked noise as Marvin sunk his fangs into his neck. Chase shuddered, gasped, pleaded. “Marvin,” he croaked, “Please...”
But Marvin didn’t stop. He couldn’t. Whatever had been missing from the other blood, it wasn’t missing from Chase. It felt warmer, smoother, and tasted oh so much better.
What was it? What made Chase’s blood so different?
He’d have to keep drinking until he found out.
Chase tried to elbow Marvin away, but he was rapidly weakening, and Marvin was only getting stronger. “Stop,” he gasped, “It hurts!”
What was it? What was it?
Maybe... maybe it wasn’t the blood itself. Maybe it was something else.
What was it that made homecooked food taste so good?
That’s what had been missing.
Chase loved him. Of course that made his blood that much sweeter. Love.
Chase went limp in his arms.
Jackie was watching, horror clear on his face.

Marvin bolted upright, a scream catching in his throat and coming out as a sob instead.
He could still taste it. He rushed into the bathroom and scrubbed his teeth. He rinsed with mouthwash, again and again and again. His fangs poked his mouth and his lip in his carelessness. He sobbed more as he spat.
He wouldn’t. He wouldn’t bite his brothers, he wouldn’t!
His stomach growled. ‘Really?’ it asked. ‘No matter what? No matter how unsatisfying all other blood is? No matter how hungry you are?’
“Never,” he whispered. “Never, never.”
His stomach growled again. ‘Shall we test that?’
He stumbled to his window and opened it up. He wouldn’t bite them.
But... he couldn’t risk being hungry around them, either.
