what would it have been like if vamp!simon had actually been able to give birth instead of a c-section? Would his post-partum be any different? What is the post-partum phase even like for vampires?? i really love the vampparents au soryy

funny you asked bc this is the main part of my reboot in vamp au: as THE HANGED MAN is unable to figure out how the hell he got pregnant, the vampire king instead puts him on making more vampires duty with his wife. he does have ophelia traditionally, his body is a little more used to its half alive state.
now.. your post also had me thinking about postpartum and pregnant vampire stuff. that im putting under a cut just for lengths/discussion sake.
pregnancy is physically taxing on simon.. it weakens his ability to recover and makes him far more prone to blood frenzy and weakness. i like to imagine the walls of the womb are very thick to handle vamp baby strength + theres more padding.. thick cords too. uhh..
postpartum involves a lot of winding down from the body putting energy into being able to eat food and digest it, he feels physically drained for a while and he can have trouble keeping blood down due to his messed-up digestive system until its done winding down, as well as still experiencing food hunger he can't satisfy. he's really visibly worn out even like, a month later. hungry for blood more often but in smaller amounts.
also, has that little paunch for a bit longer as the uterus takes a while to "recover" from pregnancy. vamps dont produce milk or anything like that, so most of the postpartum state is recovering.
