im fighting against the melatonin gummies rn bear with me. uhhh idk i think about how badly morri was wanted in vamparents a lot, like, obviously they were happy with marcy but they'd been trying to have a family since before simon turned. once they were in the vamp kingdom they would never adopt another child, especially since kid vamps didn't exist, and they had accepted marceline was their only before betty's dick apparently became magic. so obviously when their kid's been taking way longer than 9 months to arrive betty got. well she's a little sad! the medical department for vampires is very lacking, so it took a while to get a sonogram machine in the kingdom. betty will never not be in awe of what her husband has done for her.

also, simon still remembering bettys birthday after a thousand years my beloved.

crownswap simon keeps decently close tabs on his baby, actually! the last thing he has of his betty before she went cuckoo for coco puffs, the whole reason he can't just live in blissful, mad oblivion with his wife. he Loves his little guy. he made a little portable sonogram machine by tinkering with and magically altering an existing wand. he was a bit worried that dose of magic they took when he stole magic madam's powers would have harmed them but they seem to be developing quite well! all the more reason to fix betty. she is going to be sane by the time theyre born or he isnt having them goddamnit

what would it have been like if vamp!simon had actually been able to give birth instead of a c-section? Would his post-partum be any different? What is the post-partum phase even like for vampires?? i really love the vampparents au soryy

funny you asked bc this is the main part of my reboot in vamp au: as THE HANGED MAN is unable to figure out how the hell he got pregnant, the vampire king instead puts him on making more vampires duty with his wife. he does have ophelia traditionally, his body is a little more used to its half alive state.

now.. your post also had me thinking about postpartum and pregnant vampire stuff. that im putting under a cut just for lengths/discussion sake.

pregnancy is physically taxing on simon.. it weakens his ability to recover and makes him far more prone to blood frenzy and weakness. i like to imagine the walls of the womb are very thick to handle vamp baby strength + theres more padding.. thick cords too. uhh..

postpartum involves a lot of winding down from the body putting energy into being able to eat food and digest it, he feels physically drained for a while and he can have trouble keeping blood down due to his messed-up digestive system until its done winding down, as well as still experiencing food hunger he can't satisfy. he's really visibly worn out even like, a month later. hungry for blood more often but in smaller amounts.

also, has that little paunch for a bit longer as the uterus takes a while to "recover" from pregnancy. vamps dont produce milk or anything like that, so most of the postpartum state is recovering.

Did any if the simons that are with a betty ever get insecure or embarrassed of his body around her? I cant imagine a male, especially simon, would be feeling very confident in that situation. Hell, lots of afabs dont feel very confident in that situation.

glad to have you here! they all absolutely do. even wizardbetty au simon (especially while pregnant), though he kept very well covered up around betty. he felt absolutely ridiculous waddling around behind someone like betty, who was so.. capable. slowly not being able to keep up with her made him so embarassed, plus seeing what morri was doing to his body made him even more so.

another special mention is vampire simon, who has second thoughts, like.. every single day. the way the pregnancy changes his body and alters his moods.. betty's so important and gorgeous and smart, and she keeps going on day runs to get him sweets... and he looks like this. but betty knows her hubby is second guessing himself, even if he keeps those thoughts private, and is always reassuring him or showing him she still loves him and is very excited for their baby.
