Visiting the @thehenryford Museum of Innovation yesterday, I felt strangely connected to this small display of vintage #ERA buttons on the way toward the restored Montgomery Alabama bus that Rosa Parks herself once refused to give up her seat within. The ERA is relevant today again more than ever as groups like @varatifyera are pushing to be the 38th state to ratify this constitutional amendment. This way, equal rights will be inscribed in our nation’s charter, not just on a few pretty buttons. There is no doubt in my mind that “sex” in this context is inclusive of all sexes, genders, and all paths through gender identity and orientation that personal authenticity takes us. And I know that because it’s the same understanding for our freedom of religion. Our right to express ourselves, when not harming others, is the same whether we have a religion or not, whether we are part of a big one or a small one, whether we express it a lot or a little, or whether we change it at 5 or at 50 or twice in between. #detroit #varatifyera #eranow #thehenryford #erapins #transisbeautiful #wontbeerased #hannahsimpson @women4all @womensmarchalliance @wearemarchon @womensmarchrva (at The Henry Ford Museum At Detroit Michigan) https://www.instagram.com/p/BtNMNATH8PQ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ttzq0mdfkyso
