It's confusing that lapis took the barn - she didn't seem worried about it until peridot kept bringing their things up? and it makes it unclear whether peridot's more upset about losing lapis or her home

might’ve been a last-minute decision born from panic. maybe even “revenge” on peridot for, in lapis’ eyes, betraying her (for lack of better word). like…”you’re not going to come with me? then fine. but i’m carrying through with our plan whether you’re going or not.” not out of malice, but selfishness.

I kinda see Dave more associated with water - he's more passive, chill, and emotional than Rose, always going with the flow. (Like the flow of time) Rose however, is more fiery, being as reckless as she is, the first to leap into battle, full of theatric passion and over-confidence. Also lava is pretty fluid and light is associated with fire. Idk if the ogre was triggered by a simple fear like John's with heights, but I feel like Rose, after observing LOLAR a bit more, saw her harmless looking

watery world and feared that she wasn’t as hardcore as she thinks she is. A thought she probably fought with her whole life with the cushy life in the country, spoiled by Mom, who she thought of as a real heroine displaced in time forced to live the boring life of raising her. who she thought she had to catch up with. And maybe thats why she hated the april rain so much - it threatens to put out her fire. Dave meanwhile, found himself in the same kind of hardcore bs he always lived in and hated

Of course their lands speak of the true selves they must become, which is reflected in their god tiers - Rose becomes a passive class and Dave is an active class. What I’m trying to say is I guess is that they both have fiery and watery associations imo, and I think that’s so cool

I think you are in danger of relying too much on wordplay to establish your connections, but I see where you’re coming from. In so far as water is passive and fire is seemingly active, those elements seem to align more with Dave and Rose’s respective attitudes.

I’m relying more on the pages where the kids look up at the sky and wax poetic on their worldviews. John talks about winds, Rose mostly talks about rain (that fails to put out fire), Dave mostly talks about heat (and hopes for the rain’s relief)

I was under the impression that the rains inability to finish reminded Rose of her tendency to procrastinate, but there’s definitely an element of rebellion against her cushy (if neglected) lifestyle, like you said.

I’m actually highly suspicious of the notion of a True Self, as it seems to serve the purpose of rendering your present self as vaguely inauthentic and thus bad. There’s definitely an element of self-improvement and growing up that ties into the process, but I’m really hesitant to accept notions of “meant to be.”
