Having Vault 22 vibes here...
Pictured: Vault 94's damaged GECK.
You can read more about Vault 94 and learn about how their GECK got damaged and what happened afterwards here.
I solo’d today’s Daily Op and here’s how it went:
Badly!
(Resilient Super Mutants in Vault 94. What could go wrong??)
7+ minutes trying to find the initial uplink because the flag wasn’t coming up on my map. Turns out it was in, like, the first room. Did I mention I’ve never been in Vault 94 before? Off to a great start!
The next two objectives went smoothly...as smoothly as something can go when you’re a sneak/sniper build surrounded by hyper-perceptive super mutants who can only be killed with melee weapons. I guess. I’ve never been big into heavy guns in Fallout but Murmrgh gave me an anti-armor explosive Gatling gun last week and it’s been a godsend for dealing with mobs like this. I’m leaning heavily on it. And finishing everyone off with the Heart Wrencher of course. Partly because I HAVE TO GODDAMMIT and partly for the weekly challenge. Mostly because it’s hilarious to clobber a super mutant with a bouquet of roses.
The final boss comes out and oh shit! I’m out of stimpaks. I’ve got plenty of food, though. I switch to my other favorite gun which is an explosive lever action rifle- slow as hell, but the additional vampire effect keeps me afloat. My power armor, which I almost never wear, is also doing a lot to keep me alive. “I can probably manage like this for awhile,” I thought.
And then my power armor fucking dies. Since I rarely use it I had no clue how fast it’d use up fusion cores, especially with all my running and jumping and fleeing. I try to manage but end up taking it off. And then die, obviously.
But wait. I’m already SO far over the time limit that there’s really no penalty for dying. So then it just becomes an adventure in tedium. Literally just me sneaking in a few hits before getting killed by this stupid fire-breathing super mutant and re-spawning somewhere else in the vault.
Over. And. Over. And. Over. Again. Eventually he goes down.
Total time: slightly north of 34 minutes. I’m out of stimpaks, grenades, chems, food, water, and 5mm ammo. The rewards are minimal.
But the glory- the glory is all mine.
:P
(Can you imagine being that super mutant though? Trying so desperately to kill me and I just keep getting reincarnated? And then I take you out with fucking FLOWERS. This game is amazing. Honestly. Even if I’m the most non-graceful player to ever walk the wastelands.)
The vault 22 vibes in the residential area especially were SO STRONG.
STORY TIME 3.0
So, my Appalachian Survivor is mucking about as per the usual, when a new radio signal pops up on my Pipboy. Oh, goody!Turns out Vault 94 is open for play. Sweet, I think to myself as I merrily march off to my impending doom.
So far, so good, right? No signs of life, irradiated or otherwise...
Found this Tic-tac-toe powerhouse hiding under the table the further in I went. Everyone, meet John...?
And then I found this, the bane of my existence. This place has group missions, which does not bode well for folks like myself playing 76 like a lone wolf, so I opted to try my first mission out on novice mode thinking my level 91 ass would cake-walk this. Alas, my hubris got the better of me as I could only manage getting 3/4's of the way through the mission.
I also joined "John" under the table, popped open a Vintage Nukashine, and said 'FUCK IT!'
The End
very excited to find other vaults. less excited to find no way to get into them.
