VvvvvaVvvvvvr’s Lore: A Creator Commentary (Part 1)
vavr lore
A wise(?) man(???) once said “There is no lore. Fuck you.” And while he might be true, some sneaky bastards decided otherwise.
For those unaware, VvvvvaVvvvvvr is a SiivaGunner fanchannel that has no quality control. As the tagline goes, “I upload everything”. Amongst the offkey offbeat mashups accumulating within its high video count, there contains less than a hundred videos that tell a somewhat deep yet funny story that has gone on to inspire many people in their future endeavours. Originally ending on July 12 2020, the channel got brought back in 2023 and along came a slew of new stories to tell. Some of those stories being penned by me.
Here’s a behind the scenes look at all the stuff I’ve done for V’s lore over the past three years. Starting with…
The VvvvvaVvvvvvr Cryptover
This is technically the first lore project I was involved in. My only contribution to it though was a rejected logo.
However, a part of it was used for the thumbnail, that being the downward arrow.
…and that’s all there is to say on my part lol.
VvvvvaVvvvvvr's Spooktacular Literally Not Halloween Special 5: The Mare Before Christmas
Ah, now here’s where I start getting more involved!
I voiced the narrator since I thought I could pull off a deep voice well. Having no legit stint at voice acting prior, I think I did a good job at it. I liked the inflictions I gave for some lines such as “Oh you can celebrate Christmas…if you can survive” and “they dialled a 7 instead of an 8”.
The outro had a…bit of a rocky development. Minindo did the edit for the intro, so naturally he was going to do the conclusion. But due to clashing events, the outro’s production was halted for months. That’s when I decided to take the edit offer instead and went forth with my Sony Vegas expertise. We ended up uploading it after the April Fools event since its theme was fake lore videos, so ending it with an actual lore episode was funny enough to do.
I enjoyed working on this a lot, mostly cause I started learning how a vavr lore video was made. There’s a bit of structure to it that some may not realise, such as the audio levels of V’s midi and wiseguy voice, the specific fonts used for each character’s lines, and even the movement for when V and N talk as they jump forward and back (idk what else to call it…writing out editing quirks is weird lol). Unfortunately, the latter point is something you can only do properly in After Effects, which I thought was a scary spooky program at the time, so I stuck to just painstakingly keyframing their dialogue bops (I think I’ll call it that from now on).
Lazer (the writer of the project) gave me some tidbits about my voice work from the opening, so I applied them as best as I could to the outro, with me taking the role of Horse and the narrator again. Since they’re the same character, I didn’t do much with my voice to differentiate the two. For Horse however, I added a layer of glitchy noise to the recording as to reflect their glitch attributes. This was done by vocoding my lines to a glitch sfx in Audacity. It was a weird method, but it got the job done at least.
I also did the MS Paint backgrounds for the room and hallway. I enjoyed adding little jokes here and there for both areas as well as adding references within the hallway specifically. I based it off of the same area in the first Horse video, with the doors and dark corridor being placed relative to where they were in the original.
I’m very proud of the final product considering it was my first lore edit. Lazer’s writing was great and the Tim Burton-esque art Modems and Frisk did were awesome.
VvvvvaVvvvvvr’s VViki Venture aka Wiki Week
This was the first lore saga I wrote. Originally, there wasn’t gonna be one since the event was a day long, but it got extended to a week cause we got more submissions than expected, which encouraged me to develop a storyline explaining its purpose. I got the premise after thinking about how V’s town would’ve reacted after the events of Ends Here, Ends Now (EHEN). The idea of Mashupville documenting V after he saved them was interesting, and I thought it’d be a funny outcome that his story was so stupid they just gave up treating it seriously and moved on.
I.M. Meen being the titular takeoveree came from me picking out characters that would fit a museum or documentation vibe, such as librarians, historians, or just book nerds. I planned for the cashier to be an original character like Crypto Nerd but team swayed me to use a meme character instead. Once Meen popped into my head, I realised his erratic behaviour would be perfect for what I already wrote up. The other wiki editors were suggestions by me as well, with Yoshi being an idea from Moder.
The museum exterior and general video editing were done by minindo, while I did the hallway background, the storage room, the channel banner, and Meen’s sentence mixing.
Most of the images framed in the hallway were random memes I had saved (excluding the first one, that's a reference to I'm Not Your Daddy I'm Your Grandpa), but minindo recommended me to use some iconic vavr thumbnails too (see if you can identify them). The storage background was fun to do, as I went through old EHEN project folders to spread little trinkets throughout the room.
During the event, I wanted to utilise the community posts as a way to have some fun with the Meen character and get people more involved with the lore. I wrote up 5 poems based on the wiki editors to tease their reveal in the outro and play in character since Meen wrote poems in his game.
(Turret's poem was gonna be a jokey one with him just revealing his identity, but he suggested against that)
Unfortunately, no one was really attempting to solve them. Looking back, I do think some of the poems were quite vague despite my attempts at making them cryptic but solveable. However, I then got the idea to play into the fans ignoring the poems and made posts about Meen getting angry that no one was caring about his work, leading to the characters being teased once more by posting blurry selfies of a mad Meen with his friends in the background.
I was really happy with how I turned things around and yet still stayed in character. Remember kids: improvise, adapt, overcome.
To finish off the event, I came up with Ending - The Shining as a reference to wayneradiotv's I.M. Meen stream ending. Wanting to create a photo that'd be as confusing as the original Shining picture, I made this…perculiar one of Meen and V in 2017, basing it off of this picture used in EHEN.
What could this photo possibly explain? Was I.M. Meen always there from the start?! Much to think about...
Nlog 2020/12/14: Tower
For the 1 year anniversary of Chapter 2 Episode 3, the team thought to make something lore related since Episode 4 was still in development. I brought up the idea of doing an Nlog related to Wiki Week and how N felt that people were interested in his ordeal. Another idea was brought up by Kiiva and Turret to do one on the Tower as a way to tease Episode 4, which we went with instead.
I didn't have much involvement with the writing. That credit goes to Kiiva, Turret, and Modems. I did make But Nobody Forumed - Vvvvvatale (with help from Hwc) cause I like when rips get uploaded as supplements to lore uploads (such as Black Black - Black Black and Maki’s birthday after the Yankover).
[END OF PART 1]
Today is my birthday. In the past month some things in my life haven't been going great. I've been trying to turn it around… but recent news really didn't help. Today completely flipped that on its head. Nearly 100 people who I consider friends made a birthday album for me:
The whole album is so well done and just such a wonderful gift. It touched me deeply, and I'm so happy and surprised and proud and thankful, and I am going to use the positive energy from today to push through in all the challenges coming up, remembering that my friends got my back. Love you all.
Related to that, and this tumblr page… I will be answering more of the FAQs here for real, this weekend! Someone asked for random useless trivia for the wiki, and while I'll think of a more fittingly random answer later, here's something I feel that it's an appropriate day to reveal: since May, I've been a backroom member of SiIvaGunner. I do some of the uploading now, and a decent amount of managing projects and logistics, alongside the many others who do that vital work keeping the channel running at max quality. I'm honored to be part of it and I try not to take it for granted.
That's all I have to say on that. Catch me at MAGFest 2025 if you can!
