Posted @withregram • @vcfadesign As part of the upcoming Spring 2021 Residency, VCFA MFA in Graphic Design would like to introduce our first visiting designer, Rafael Attias!!! @rafaelattias ⚡️ Attias will be conducting a workshop titled: Sound & Vision, on April 5th, 5:40pm EST ⚡️ Workshop Description: “Rhythm, repetition, systems, and patterns are all commonly used in the creation of both visual, and musical composition. This workshop will introduce students to the fundamentals of digital audio composition, production, arranging and sequencing, with the goal of exploring intersections between graphic design, visual composition, and the realms of rhythm and sound. The following questions will guide our explorations: • What is the role of graphic designers in the creation of time-based experiences? • What new modes of communicating ‘meaning’ become available through the process of systematic composition modes?” ⚡️ Bio: Rafael Attias is a multi-disciplinary fine artist, designer, filmmaker, composer, curator, guitar shredder, and educator. He has focused on communication strategies and brand building through the development and application of well thought-out design practices. As a multidisciplinary fine artist, curator and promoter of the arts, he has worked in diverse fields, navigating the spaces between fine art practice and design, often searching for where the two worlds intersect. He has worked as a graphic designer and art director for over 25 years. He is interested in exploring media+arts through installations, concerts, performances, and screenings. Together with Dimitri Bruni he established the graphic design studio NORM in 1999, and in 2007 Ludovic Varone joined the studio. NORM focuses on designing and publishing books and typefaces. VCFA’s MFA in Graphic Design invites you to a **FREE** public lecture and workshop with VCFA faculty member Ian Lynam! Date: April 26, 2020 Time: 11:00AM–12:30PM EST Title: Collage Club Lecture & Workshop (Open to all!) Due to the incredible reliance on digital tools today, let’s turn to making some visual work with our hands instead—both individually and collectively. Collage is both a method and a strategy that gets overlooked in regards to graphic design, despite being part and parcel of graphic design. Collage is one method for making work that exudes design authorship, stands out from the pack, and can help imbue your design work with visual authorship. After a brief and very cursory look at influential collage from the 1970s through today (AKA Ian's wildly subjective take on what he terms "The Collage Canon"), workshop members are invited to explore the catharsis of making analog collaged compositions together. While there is a relatively brief presentation component, this workshop is intended to allow us all to slow down, focus in ways we might not do normally, consider our aesthetic choices, chat, cut and paste, but most of all: be together.
