One thing I adore about being a performer is that, as a genderfluid person, I can embody characters of different genders and bring my own truths to all of them. Gender and performance are often one and the same for me; I can escape the concept of even having a gender about as seldom as I can escape performing for others. For the next two weekends on Friday and Sunday, I get to transform from a dainty Regency lady in the first act to a ghostly 18th-century baronet in the second. These photos were taken during tech week, so some of the costumes are not in their final forms and some of the wigs look truly terrible, but itās what we have. With a heavy heart I must announce that The Grand Duke has been cancelled at the Hillcrest Center due to coronavirus concerns, and will not be rescheduled. This cast and crew put so much work into this production and Iām glad that we at least got to play for one weekend, but we are all feeling very sorrowful. I loved this part so much, and I wish my friends and family could have seen me perform it. š My heart goes out to all of the other performers and directors who have experienced cancellations. The best we can do is support one another, stay smart and safe, and know that our art will live on no matter what. So much love to all of you.
