Vector Hold - Drifting
Synthwave Sunday Tuesday #12
I wasn't able to make a post this past weekend, but I would like to keep this as a semi-weekly thing, so this week's Synthwave Sunday will just have to deal with being on a Tuesday instead. X]
This week I'd like to highlight Blue Powder 1984 by Vector Hold:
This song first came to my attention when I heard it in this Kickstarter trailer for a game called Power Drive 2000 way back in 2015:
I saw this trailer, was immediately blown away by how perfectly aligned it was with my personal aesthetic, and backed the game immediately. 8 years later and there's nothing but radio silence from the devs. :,]
The last time the Kickstarter page for this game updated, the devs said they were in the middle of talks with some lawyers, which is a pretty ominous post to leave on. Allegedly the game became involved in legal trouble because it was too similar to another racing game that was set to release around the same time. But I guess we'll never know for sure, because this project seems to have been abandoned completely.
Even if this game will never become anything, I still really like the song from the trailer. I doubt Vector Hold had anything to do with this game's failure, haha. It brings up bittersweet memories whenever I hear this song come up on shuffle.
However my dream for a synthwave racer game was rekindled slightly when I found the Neon Racer mod for SOMA. It achieves a similar aesthetic while also having a nice and short self-contained plot. If you have a PC copy of SOMA (if you're following me, how can you not?) I recommend giving this mod a look.
I'll post another favorite song of mine next week! :]
