Help! I'm bringing home an 8 week old service dog prospect in a few days and my family is planning on going out of town for Thanksgiving. I'm anxious about traveling with a puppy that young (would be about 12 weeks old) and how either bringing the puppy or leaving her behind for a few days either in boarding or with a pet sitter would impact her training. Do you have any advice? I didn't know this trip was happening until today. Just not going is not really an option
I wouldn’t recommend boarding for a dog that young. I’m… actually pretty sure the majority of places won’t take a dog that young.
I have travelled pretty decent amounts of time with dogs that young, and it’s not bad, but you do need to remember their potty breaks. I’m not sure how your family is, but I know mine is hectic and maybe not the best to keep a really young SDiT around. If there will be other family dogs there, unless you know they’re really well behaved, I probably would recommend against taking her.
A pet sitter might be a great solution, but make sure you get a really good one.
