Do you believe the Gods are flawed?

Hi there anon!!! ✨✨

I personally believe they can be flawed but for a reason. And that their flaws are more like character traits that make them more relatable to us humans. Of course, they are very strong, great, and beautiful in their own ways, with many different qualities that make them stand out.

I will take Veles for example. He is what people these days call a trickster god. But that trickster trait, and the myth of him stealing Perun's property (whether his wife, child (Jarilo) or cattle) is not supposed to make him seem like he is flawed. Not even morally gray. He is a benevolent deity (which doesn't mean everyone will get along with him, but he is not evil for example). But the trickster characteristic is an important aspect to his character.

Rebirth in humanity is represented in The Battle Between Perun and Veles, where Perun kills Veles. In which Veles represents our forebears, hence why he is sometimes referred to as grandfather

Very similar to worship of Pan, Hades, and other horned, underworld, or destruction deities: His cult and worship was deemed "demonic" by the spread of Christianity and forbidden

In addition, He bears a resemblance to Hermes and Loki in terms of attributes

So I’ve been spending some time on pagan tumblr--specifically in the misc. deity worship tags. During my browsing, I’ve noticed something odd--my relationship with my ‘main” deity Veles doesn’t match anything I’ve seen other people talk about.

He called me for years, and when I finally found him, he rejected me. “To want and want, and never receive.” I went on to worship him anyway, almost purely out of spite. When he saw that I wouldn’t give up he accepted me into his fold, and now the vibe is like a sharp dagger of conflict-for-the-hell-of-it wrapped in layers of mutual adoration. 

I don’t capitalize his pronouns as I would with Athena or Dionysus--an intentional act of disrespect. He appears to me with the kind of vibes that would usually send me running for my salt, only lessened by the overwhelming fondness of me that radiates off of him. I reject gifts or don’t give offerings, until I forget that I’m on an offering strike and give one anyway. I am almost certain he’s at fault for all the mice and crickets in my bedroom. “Conflict with a merry grin.”

Our relationship is built off of conflict and spite, only just being balanced out by the fact I love him and he loves me. If he weren’t my god, I’d think I was being haunted. 

Has anybody else experienced anything like this? Am I the only one weaving insults into their prayers?
