Babydoll 💜
Wow,,, My favorite episode of hazbin hotel btw :
I could go on for years about Vox and why is now my 2nd favorite animated villain of all time, and I will make a full blown anaylsis of him eventually, but I wanna dump some of the smaller quick thoughts I have about him because there are things I gotta get off my chest.
Vox's defeat was perfectly done and there is absolutely no better way they could've gone about his defeat.
And, I apologize, but I cannot even begin to comprehend the people who think from a narrative standpoint that Vox should've been killed off here?!
And trust me, I am actively trying to hear them out and TRYING to understand why, even though nothing will convice me and I know nothing will convince me, I still want to understand why they think that. But so far despite how hard I'm trying, I literally cannot comprehend why. The main thing im really getting is that people think killing him is a better idea mainly for viewer sasfication. Which just blows my mind, because, like, news flash, the fucking planning and decisions for long term narrative is MORE IMPORTANT then short term viewer sasfication. I cannot begin to understand that POV, and I have yet to see any reason and explanation and legitimate arugement I can understand why someone would think killing Vox would have better for the long term narrative that doesn't boil down to the person wanting short term sasfication over actually considering what is better for the long term narrative.
And like, I CAN AND DO understand a lot of opposing points in the Hazbin critical discussion sphere, even with the serious shit I FIRMLY stand by on. Case in point, the big one. How the show handles SA, I personally think its very well done outside one horrible fuck up in the show itself, and the fuck up of the crew outside the show's bubble about the drama of when Posion was leaked early. I can COMPLETELY understand the other side on even THAT, despite the fact I will always throw out my counterarguments in that field. I will always respect fellow survivors for not feeling seen, but we still should be allowed to have discussions about this. Fellow survivors are allowed to aruge and discuss this with each other civially, and I'm never gonna tell anyone they have no right to feel offended by Habzin tackling of SA, but again, I will still aruge with people about it because it is important to actually fucking discuss this shit. And I will only start being an asshole if someone else is an asshole first. (Which is why I'm so harsh on Limustheslime)
I can also understand why people hate Stolitz and the Goetia family plotline despite how deep my those personal thoughts and feelings with those heavy convos on that shit, even if I find a lot of their arguments rooted in sexism and internalized queerphobia, I can STILL understand how and why people think that way even if I HARSHLY disagree and can't stand it. (I personally think Helluva Boss has way worse issues then those plotlines but that's a story for another time)
But I just cannot understand the people who think it would've been a better long term writing decision to kill Vox?
Like I always knew from the VERY moment Vox was announced to be the main antagonist of S2 that killing him was the single most horrible thing they could do for the long term narrative, because even without any other knowledge of how the show was gonna go about handling him as the main antagonist, I knew long term killing Vox would not be a good writing decision because the long term story impacts of him going down to his lowest point and staying alive over being killed over always had more potential, and would futher the story far more over killing him off. (Also killing every season's main antagonist would not only get old real quick, but also would be way too predictable and cichle.)
So here we are. They went the exact path that I always believed was the best decision to go from a narrative standpoint.
We saw Vox rise, be a serious threat, learned more about him, and then when it crumbled, we saw Vox at it absolute lowest, and now that opens the door for tons of amazing ways to take with him to develop his character while still keeping him a villain.
The only truly horrible decision they can make with him as of right now is trying to do a full blown redemption arc with him, and thankfully, I'm VERY doubtful that will be the case.
Also, I don't get why people are disappointed with how they went about his defeat?! Like, yeah, the way they destroy the cannon with music is silly and kinda dumb all things considered, but when it comes to Vox himself, and not that shit, I don't get why people wanted Vox to be forcibly put into his place by Alastor or whoever else.
The entire fucking season showed us that everyone TRIED AND FAILED (Even Alastor!) to foribly put Vox in his place to defeat him. All of those attempts literally only made Vox keep going. That literally what the entire ass season showed us.
The only way Vox could be defeated was if he defeated himself, which is EXACTLY what we got.
Alastor knew that from the very beginning, and I caught onto that fact from episode fucking 4. If the viewer's have eyes and ears and are legitimately paying attention, you could easily tell Alastor knew from the start the only way to defeat the Vees and Vox was to make them destroy themselves from the inside out, and therefore, default themselves. I'll always find it funny is that when my anaylsis post explaining how I caught that and how I could easily tell Alastor's plan was genius that THAT was the anaylsis I got the most pushback on, especially since, out of all of them, it was the one I WAS THE MOST CORRECT ABOUT.
Looking back, I have no idea how people didn't pick up on that back when that episode aired, and especially not after the finale.
This makes complete narrative sense and this was the build up from the beginning!
And the reason why Vox defeating himself works best instead of him foribly being defeated, or being killed, is because his main character flaw that literally leads to every single fucking evil action he takes is that he has extreme abandonment and attachment issues, and will do ANYTHING for acknowledgement and attention.
I wouldn't be surprised if Vox has a deep, deep, rooted hatred for himself. The only reason he didn't defeat himself was because Valentino saved him, and that's the dose of reality Vox fucking needs.
People actually do care about him, and Vox needs to realize that! That's the missing piece he needs because he has gone down such a dark path because he NEVER felt like got that one thing he always needed, despite the fact, that, in Hell, he HAS had it and tragically isn't capable of realizing he has had exactly what he has been chasing for his entire existence right in front of him.
And is instead STILL playing an impossible game to get what he wants deep down... That never worked and WILL never work. And most tragically Vox STILL thinks it's gonna work and is so blinded by the endless chase he puts himself on and that he literally cannot see he already has what he's always been looking for.
We see how Vox, during his life, constantly changed his appearance the higher he climbed the ranks. Likely pointing to things about himself he hated and thought he'd be shamed for, and to keep up appearances. He dyed his hair from brown to black, changed his matching brown suit to black, began wearing bowtie suits instead of ties, (which seems to be his preferred style) seemed to try and minimize his heterochromia's visibility, seemed to keep his strong interest in sealife and sharks as subtle as possible (which granted he does fail at because he just genuinely loves them THAT MUCH) and even STOPPED WEARING HIS GLASSES.
Now, it's likely he began wearing contacts, ofc, but contacts only began being easily accessibly very very late into Vox's life, and they WERE NOT COMFORTABLE. I wouldn't be shocked if Vox just stopped using any sort of corrective lenses honestly. Simply because considering how his death was almost certainly accidental because he failed to secure the most modern TV in that room, meaning it's possible that not wearing glasses in his interest to appear for what he thought society would love him most for was the reason he DIED.
He died changing his appearance and himself for his constant need to hide things about himself he thinks society would shame him for and find less diserable about his physical appearance or certain personality quirks.
And what's sad is you can tell the longer and longer Vox went down this path while he was still alive and not yet dammed to Hell, and the more he changed his appearance and himself in the hope it would make his followers like him more and gain more followers, the more unhinged, power-hungry, yet lonely and miserable he became. You can just see it in his eyes and how his hair grows more and more unkept.
He literally fuckin' danced with one of his vitcim's dead bodies... That's how much he was desperately hiding the fact he was attracted to men.
And his behavior absolutely followed him into Hell. Not only has he CONSTANTLY modified his TV head in the chase for better appearances to the masses, he still hides his more quirky sides of him, even from his fellow Vees. He seems embarrassed when Vel interrupts him baby talking his shark, and while Valentino definitely must've helped him be more willing to accept his bisexuality, he still is VERY CLEARLY ashamed of it and might even be closested to the rest of Hell (which I doubt they buy lol).
Alastor was the first person he actually was ever truly geninue with, and that resulted with it blowing up on his face, and that certainly did not help the insane attachment issues he was already facing his whole life.
But his friendship still did have a lasting impact in a positive way, because despite the added trauma Alastor gave to Vox in his reguard, Vox still DID remember that it was genuine previously and it's why he went on to even fond the Vees and become so close with Val and Vel
Vox DID find his people...
The unfortunate part was that he COULDN'T let go of not only Alastor, but the decades he had spent trying to find the sasfication of true love and admiration in a way that would just never give it to him.
This all became a self-futfilling prophecy, because he was chasing something that he was never gonna get no matter if ge got to the top. The desire to have the satisfaction of people approve you, so you can feel happy with yourself won't ever be filled no matter far much Vox climbed.
And it all comes to its climax at the very point where was so close to winning, he thought he won, but it was all a trick, a ploy, to knock him right down to square one.
And he was so far gone, that for him to even realize just how far he has fallen, was for him just... Give up. He couldn't do it anymore. He realized he couldn't get that desire futfilled through the only way he knew how.
And with all hope lost, in his state of utter despair and insanity, NOTHING mattered to him anymore. He was going to attempt to not only take his own life, but Alastor's, his fellow Vees, and literally half of pentagram city, which would be likely mean he would've killed more sinners then all seven years of the exterminations combines. PLUS some of Hell's strongest figures AND ARCHANGELS...
The only thing that mattered to Vox anymore was Alastor was going to be taken down with him, and everyone else.
Vox was broken from the start, but at that point, he was shattered, and he believed that nothing, absolutely nothing, was worth it anymore, he didn't matter anymore and he never did, so nobody should matter to him, and he shouldn't matter to nobody, the only thing that mattered was long as Alastor went down with him, just to show Alastor, everyone in the afterlife, and himself, that it was Alastor's fault he ended up shattered and on his knees.
The fact that Valentino and Velevette not only SAVED HIM, but they're keeping him around (even if they're pissed the fuck off which they have every right to) despite ALL OF THAT is exactly the fucking wake up call and snap to reality Vox NEEDS.
Vox was already so far gone even before his plan to rule heaven that the only thing that would snap him out of it was having to get heought THIS LOW...
Because seeing that's just how far he'll go to get any sort of acknowledgement that makes him feel satisfied... Which is something he can never feel despite how much he's tried to chase it for his entire life is exactly what he needs to reflect on to be able to actually get what he's always wanted.
And we have so much more to explore, because sure, from the flashback we see that Vox was this self-destructive since life... But he was already clearly an adult. This behavior would've been seeded in his youth. I'm almost certain Vox had a horrible childhood in one way or another which would lead him chasing ANY sort of admiration and attention he could possibly yet since he probably NEVER got it growing up.
You don't just develop attachment and abandonment issues over nothing, after all.
I wouldn't be shocked if he always had impossible to meet standards placed on him as a child, and when he obviously failed to meet them despite pushing himself very hard, it was harshly punished. Considering how much he'll change his appearance and quirky traits to appease others, he was likely constantly shamed for the true parts of himself, leading him to also put these expectations on himself, but never reaching his own self imposed goals no matter how much he tries.
It's a perfect ending for him this season and it's absolutely 100% why he's now my favorite animation television villain of all time. But, again, he's 2nd in animation history to Frollo.
And it might surprise people that, while I was excited that Vox was gonna be the main villain, I was also VERY worried with how he was gonna be executed. I stayed cautiously optimistic, and I only got more worried with the Season 2 trailers, BUT Episode 1 and 2 by themselves were already enough for me to stop worrying. I was very happy with how they excutued Vox this season, but, like, holy shit, THIS GOOD?! WOW.
You know they knocked it out of the park with Vox when even most of the antis agree Vox was done exceptionally well (even if they don't understand or like the ending)
Fuck it, I'll say it. Vox is now the 2nd best animated villian of all time, second ONLY to Judge Claude Frollo. He fucking managed to overtake Belos from TOH for me and in terms of animation television, Vox is the best villain in that department. (Ironic considering he's a fucking TV head haha)
And damn this ended up being way longer then I thought AND kinda changed from counter aruging a criticism I didn't agree with to analyzing Vox anyway AND my phone is dying so I gotta cut this short 😭
I'm honsetly hoping Vox had an abusive mother and not father just so people can stop bitching about the "daddy isssues" plotlines being everywhere. Like yes the shows tackle it a lot and a lot of characters have daddy issues, but, like, that's clearly a THEME of the shows... It's not an issue imo lol. But it would be interesting to switch it up with a character with just mommy issues and no daddy issues. (Plus it'd be another foil to Alastor which is my goddamn kyrptonite)
By the way, and I mean what I'm about to say here with 100% sincerity. If someone can actually give me a good arugement for why they beileve Vox being killed is better for the long term narrative then keeping him alive that doesnt fall back to personal viewer sasfication. PLEASE TELL IT TO ME! Because, I seriously and genuinely want to be able to understand why people believe that, despite the fact I KNOW it won't convince me to change my mind. I want to gain the perspective even if I don't agree because I think that is worth something.
Sorry for any typos or weird sentence structure in the meantime, because my dumb phone is dying and I'm running out of time to fix anything 😭

Ranking Hazbin Hotel season 2 songs part 2
This is it, the last part. Let’s go
10:
Don’t You Forget
Be honest, did anyone see this coming? Rosie being Alastor’s puppet master? The song itself does a great job at showing the position Alastor is in as he is being tossed around just like the puppet he is to Rosie. And I must admit, I do get a chuckle seeing Alastor being treated like a toy while Rosie is just being the most upbeat and condescending bitch in Hell. The lyrics are fun and have this upbeat and condescending vibe, the music is jazzy and it is funny while also being of sinister. Verdict: Incredible and upbeat song despite it being a song about Alastor being a prisoner
9:
Sera’s Confession
Okay, Hazbin Hotel making me tear up over a song? This is an incredible song showing us the mental state of Sera as she struggles to cope with something she probably hasn’t felt before, guilt. All the deaths she allowed all for what? Paranoia and Fear? Searching for guidance. Meanwhile, the Speaker of God, making me tear up over her angelic voice, isn’t trying to comfort her, but more tell her in her own words ‘You recognise your mistake, how will you choose to rectify it?’ It’s a song that has some dark and intense imagery yet being beautiful at the same time. Verdict: One of the most visually stunning songs in Hazbin Hotel and the Speaker of God…I hope you show up again
8:
Piss (A Love Song)
I will get this out of the way, I love Huskerdust and Chaggi, but CherriSnake is my OTP ship. Don’t look at me, I like unconventional romances okay?! This is a beautiful love song that is also kind of messed up and funny because it shows that their relationship and intense feelings for one another came about because of all the times they were fighting and attempting to kill each other. And these two, despite not being in the same afterlife, really convey their feelings to each other and how badly they wish to see each other again. Verdict: An amazing love song sung beautifully by Alex Brightman and Krystina Alabado
7:
Don’t You Forget (Reprise)
Vox, why are you stealing everyone’s songs? Compare this to the More Than Anything reprise from season 1 and you can see how this works better. This is a song that is dedicated to Alastor being trapped and now he is trapped with someone who is…to Alastor, inferior to Rosie; While the reprise in season 1…Didn’t work because Vaggi is not a Morningstar and it was a song between father/daughter. The song has Vox trying to one up Alastor while the latter is just having the time of his life watching Vox trying to act tough. Vox is kind of like an internet troll who thinks he is on top of everyone meanwhile his supposed victim is just laughing at his attempts. This is what I love about their dynamic this season and probably one of my favourite parts, just Alastor having the time of his life bullying Vox. But, despite the song’s fun and upbeat tone, it gets intense during the last 50 seconds where Vox further shows us how much of a threat he is and that is a nice callback to Stayed Gone. Verdict: Vox just owned this song more than Rosie ironically enough. Vox’s aura: 9/10
6:
Hear My Hope
Is it cheesy? Yes. Is it about the power of friendship? Kind of since most of these characters aren’t friends. But did this song give me goosebumps? Absolutely! I loved all of Hell getting together to stop the Might of Lilith and using their Overlord powers to either save Hell because it’s the right thing (Never thought I’d say that) or for their own gain like Velevette and Valentino. I loved Alastor and Rosie’s back and forth, I loved Vox just screaming while he couldn’t keep ahead (Ba dum tss), I loved Lute just coming but more importantly, fucking Fall Out Boy! Abel’s solo is absolutely incredible and I hope that Vivziepop gives Patrick Stump his own solo next season! Because if anyone needs a solo, it’s Abel! Verdict: A goosebump inducing finale song with an incredible solo from Mr Stump!
5:
Losin' Streak
Angel having his own Jessica Rabbit moment was not on my season 2 bingo card. The song is slow, kind of sexy yet according to a comment I read, there is kind of a deeper meaning to the lyrics. Like Angel is subtlety encouraging everyone to give up their little gambling addiction with lyrics ‘You play your final Ace for a pretty face.’ But, this is also a Huskerdust song without Keith David’s voice. Verdict: A slow and steady song sung beautifully by Blake Roman
4:
Easy
When I heard Charlie and Vaggi were getting a sexy song, I was beyond excited. Because I wanted to see what they were going to do with it. And I will be honest, I thought it would have been raunchy, but this is better than what I thought we would get. It is sexy without it being titalating or exploitive, it shows the strong bond between Charlie and Vaggi, the dance between them was amazing (Even though that is what they want us to think) and it is a really catchy song. Verdict: A sexy song without feeling the need to show some skin or sex positions. Also, Vaggi’s hips don’t lie.
3:
Gravity
The song I was most hyped to see. I will confess, when season 2 got leaked, I got naughty and listened to the song. I know! I know! I deserve to burn in Hell for what I did. Moving on, Gravity is an adrenaline rush. It also works as a metaphor for Lute’s psychological state as she tries to cope with Adam’s death as we see her breakdown and promise an act of vengeance we won’t see till the next season I hope. Yeah, disappointing we didn’t see Lute didn’t do anything this season, then again, last season did something similar to Vox where he had his own villain song and didn’t do anything until the next season. So, maybe Viv is doing the same thing. Verdict: An amazing villain song where Jessica Vosk is belting her absolute best!
2:
Love In A Bottle
Like last time, Keith David gets the second best song and this time, it is an amazing song that gives us a dive not only into Husk spiralling out of control but into addiction in general. People use addictions like gambling and alcohol and it is a high that you enjoy at first where you feel like you’re on top of the world before it all comes spiralling down and down until you feel like a former shell of yourself. And dammit, doesn’t Keith David just kill it. Verdict: Any song that has Keith David is going to be instantly iconic!
1:
Brighter
I’m sure you saw one of my Tumblr post declaring this song as a Disney villain song Disney wish they had the balls to make. The song not only is another excuse for Vox to aura farm the hell out of the scene, but also a dive into his backstory and you get every detail and understand his psyche. He was an ambitious man who went a little mad with power as he killed his way to the top until he died in an unceremonious accident which lead to him having his distinct TV head. Christian Borle just absolutely killed it, the lyrics are incredible, the music is intense and…This song is just a masterpiece. I’m sorry, I absolutely love the hell out of this song! Verdict: I’m a sucker for villain songs and Vox just proved why. Vox’s Aura: 100000/10
Now, I think I should do Helluva Boss at some point. Hopefully close to season 3 whenever that comes out
