Vassago Verhauen, Initial Impressions.
I wasn't able to find a ton of info on this bike when I was looking into purchasing it, which is the main reason for this documentation. I was on the edge of small and med, eventually deciding on the small frame. Tom at Vassago was super helpful, going as far as putting an 400mm post in a small frame to make sure it would work for me. Customer service is still alive and well.
I'm a big fan of steel bikes and made in the USA bikes. This one had both; True Temper Ox Platinum made by Zen Fabrication in Portland, OR. This bike uses proven Paragon Sliders and I opted for 142 x 12 singlespeed inserts. 73mm BB shell and a 44mm headtube made it even more desirable.
Compared to most of my previous mtbs, the Verhauen had a slacker HT and steeper ST. It's built for a 100mm fork, I'm using the Rock Shox Sid XX.
I have about 3 hours of pure Wisconsin-style singletrack on this and I am impressed so far. My position on the bike is slightly different. There's no doubt that I am further back in regards to the BB position and the front end feels a little taller even w/ a -10 stem. It also feels a little less aggressive than my Niner One9 did. After about 15 minutes though I was already grooving with the bike. I was diving into the familiar turns of Camrock and easing off the brakes at high speed.
I have no doubt that I'll be able to rip this bike even harder as I become more familiar with it. The fact that it felt so familiar in such a short amount of time bodes well. A day later and my back and neck are feeling spectacular. For my first real mtb ride of the season this feat cannot be overlooked. Most years 3 hrs of singletrack would wreak some serious havoc on my body.
Stay tuned for a full build list, weight and more impressions as I pile up some more miles.

Frau T:Halt stop, bleib mal hier.
Fuck.
