"The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace." - Romans 8:6 (NIV) This particular chapter refers to life through the Spirit, as per the Apostle Paul, and stresses the importance of living in such a way. He basically divides everyone into 2 categories — those who are dominated by their sinful nature, and those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit. Who we choose to allow control is ultimately up to us: who we are influenced by, what we put in our ears (listen to) and even the places we find ourselves in play a huge part in that. All of us would be in that first category if Jesus hadn't offered us a way out. Once we have said yes to Jesus we will want to continue following Him because His way brings life and peace. So we must consciously choose to allow the Spirit to move within us, leading our thoughts and actions. This brings glory to God but also, peace to our souls. He never said this life would be easy, as we know the path is narrow (seemingly getting smaller in today's society) but that overwhelming sense of peace in all things is so worth it, not to mention Paradise. His Word is a great way to discover the guidelines He's set aside for us, and then it becomes our responsibility to follow them.
