"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8 (NIV) There is so much to reflect on during the Easter season; so much happened in such a short time that literally changed the course of history... which was all part of God's master plan (His-story) for humanity. And as we reflect on all this we realize how much God truly loves US..... "While we were still sinners"---these are powerful and amazing words, yet convicting and heartbreaking at the same time. God sent Jesus Christ to die for us, not because we were good enough, but because we were never good enough and He loved us that much! Wait, how much do we mean to God? We literally mean Jespus Christ to God, and so He chose to sacrifice His only son who would take our place, face and endure the cross, so that we could be in relationship with God the Father. I know, it doesn't make sense but this is God's love and it is unconditionally and freely given to us. Whenever you feel uncertain about God's love for you, remember that He loved you even before you turned to Him. "While we were still sinners" separated from God, maybe not even aware, or maybe we were and chose to follow the wrong path anyway... Christ still chose to die for us! If God loved you then, in your darkest of times, imagine how much brighter the days ahead can be if you choose to rely on His strength and love Him more and more everyday. There is nothing you can't overcome, nothing can stand in your way. Seek His presence in your life, if you haven't already, and watch things change in ways you never thought possible. God loves you, so much more than you'll ever fully know. Jesus paid it all. Like Israel, we too try to appease God with "sacrifices" and our "religious" ways but that simply isn't enough; He wants changed lives. He wants His people to be fair, just, merciful, and walk humbly with Him. God wants us to become LIVING sacrifices, not just by doing or being religious, but living rightly. It is impossible to follow God consistently without His transforming love in our hearts. In our efforts to please Him, we should at least examine these areas on a regular basis, in order to keep ourselves accountable. Amen? As much as Genos hated walking around in broad daylight, there were still things that had to be done. He had just finished getting upgrades from Kuseno, and he figured that now was as good as time as any to buy a few groceries. He didn’t need much. He was perfectly capable on living on canned foods. His thoughts were interrupted when he carelessly ran into a person on the sidewalk.

What he wanted to know was who stopped teaching people that it was polite to walk on the right side? Even he knew that.

Genos was angry.

It was just one of those days where everything pissed him off, and he was irritable as all hell. He wanted to squeeze the life out of something, and as luck would have it, this idiot on a bicycle rode right up to him.

He stopped walking and turned to the man.

“I am alright. Thank you for your concern,” he said, looking him up and down. He wondered if he would be the type to beg for his life.

Stand Firm, Be Strong & Alert!

1 Peter 5:8-9 (NIV)

"Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings."

A lot of us as Christians have our own feelings about this passage from Peter, and many others like it in Scripture that may pertain to not having self-control, or not being sober. I believe God’s Word is pretty clear on how this should be handled. And Peter also reminds us to resist the enemy and stand firm in our faith because all over the world (especially today) Christians are literally being persecuted for what they believe. Let’s look at and address both topics: When we abuse any substance, not just alcohol, we are allowing the enemy to get a hold of our minds. After all, isn’t it difficult enough at times to fight him when we’re sober? When we choose to relinquish self-control we are giving satan the authority to run rampant in our minds, twisting our very thoughts, words, and even our actions. Does this mean Christians should never kick back a few and have a good time? Not at all. And most would pose the argument that Jesus turned water into wine, so therefore drinking is justified in the Bible. Yes, he did and yes it is but, when we take it to another level where we lose control, that is where God rightfully draws the line. I believe what He wants us to understand is that we are all called to be responsible and use sound judgment; only YOU know your limits, purpose, and desire. Getting drunk & acting a fool are obviously the wrong intentions because they are clearly not aligned with God’s will and they put us in a frame of mind that allows the enemy to take advantage & manipulate us. But back to self-control, being sober and/or alert at all times - We know that lions attack sick, young, or straggling animals; they choose victims who are alone or not alert. So Peter warns us to watch out for the enemy when we are suffering or being persecuted as well. If we are feeling alone, weak, helpless, and cut off from other believers, or if we are so focused on our troubles that we forget to watch for danger, those are the times when we are especially vulnerable to satan’s attacks. During times of suffering we should always seek the support of fellow Christians. We need to pray for one another, be there for each other, and keep our eyes fixed on Christ in order to resist the devil’s schemes and temptations. And in doing so he will turn the other direction and run because he has already been defeated by Jesus, at the cross! And His strength is all we need to overcome whatever the enemy may throw our way. I pray there is an understanding that God makes crystal clear for us, in regards to these particular topics. Be strong. After all, His strength lies within you - AMEN! - KTF
