I was inspired by this meme that is quite well known in Finland, see below. The reason this meme is so fun is because it's true. If you ask your grandparents or even parents about how they got to school you are likely to hear all kinds of tales about wolfs, bears, angry elks, winter storms, freezing temperatures, getting lost in the woods, crossing frozen lakes etc. And some of these stories are even true.

Here is one I heard from a older fella: One day as he walked to school it was unusually cold, -39 Celsius. When he arrived to school his eyes was frozen shut and it took a while before he was able to open them again.

And about the wolfs. Up until the late 1800's wolfs was a serious problem for the population in Finland. Several people each year would be eaten. Mainly children because they were easy prey for the wolfs.

As an example, in the city of Turku three man-eating wolfs killed 22 children during 1880 and 1881. It was not until the government sent the army and hired professional hunting teams to hunt the wolfs that the attacks stopped.

Now in modern times the number of wolfs are increasing again, even in populated areas. And some people worry that the they might start attacking people again.
