Very important notes
Important notes when writing is essential to not forget anything
come to think of it, imagine poor Reg Dalby
has to learn how to draw locomotives for a single client
locomotives, tracks, countryside, scenery for an imaginary railway... literally the Works!
anyway he learns how to draw locomotives. which, as we all know, is a real bitch. but Reg does it! he learns!
but the author is never satisfied
always riding his ass
"no, his buffers are round. no, his buffers are square. what are those proportions? do you even count the number of wheels you give them?!" maaaan, you're just tryna put food on the table for your family and get your crapwork done with so that you can do the art you care about. passion projects, you know? passion projects that have, like. zero fucking locomotives in them.
anyway you start to get a handle on this commission... but then he hits you with "oh, for this book we're gonna kick off with an goddamn elephant whooshing a steam engine."
so, fine! fuck it! you draw a goddamn elephant whooshing yet another of these stupid bloody steam engines!
"all right, then for the next story we need you to draw and paint an engine spinning around and around and around on a turntable."
"... i mean, i can draw a turntable...?—"
"spinning round a ridiculous number of times. at a high speed. it's, ummm, yes, it's very windy that day, see? so he just spins and spins and spins."
"sir, i am a 2D artist—"
"spinning round like a top. the motion is very important. otherwise there's no joke?"
"—i work with stills?"
"spinning. round. like. a. top."
