Hi! I absolutely loved your thoughts on the beginning of Húrin and Morwen’s relationship. You said pre Nirnaeth politics among the humans of Beleriand was a topic you really liked so I was wondering if you had any thoughts on Húrin and Morwen’s political lives prior to the Nirnaeth!
The funny thing is, I could SWEAR I had written a long post related to this before, but found literally nothing besides short references to it and whatnot 🤔🤔🤔
But not specifically about Húrin and Morwen, funnily enough! More about Húrin’s father and mother, because they were involved in a barely mentioned event that is nonetheless very fascinating to me personally: the double marriage between two heirs of the house of Hador and two heirs of the house of Haleth :^) me and my wife call it “the marriage of the century” 😜
About Morwen and Húrin, I don’t think I have too many ideas besides what I mentioned before in that post about their engagement! We know Húrin spends a lot of time away from home, in Eithel Sirion I assume, dealing with war things:
but his father [Túrin] saw little, for Húrin was often long away from home with the host of Fingon that guarded Hithlum’s eastern borders (...) (from the CoH)
My headcanon is that it was the same for Galdor, and domestic affairs related to the land, farming and taxes were mostly handled by Hareth. Since I HC that Morwen’s betrothal to Húrin was decided in the same year she got to Dor-lòmin, I also HC that she grew up in Hareth’s company, and learned from her how to run these domestic policy affairs. I don’t think Morwen was very creative and innovative -- and I think Hareth was around, still helping with ruling matters until far into the story… (She must have passed not long after Galdor did, if only because it’s strange and depressing to imagine her alive to see the decay of her house during Easterling rule :/)
More importantly, I think the years of Morwen in Dor-Lómin and Húrin in Brethil, Gondolin and Dor-Lómin were all heavily influenced by the preparations for the Union of Maedhros. I’m sure the farming and crafting being done is war-oriented, and probably organized in accordance to specifications according to broader plans... Similarly I think Húrin’s main concern is with the arming and training and organizing of his forces. So nothing too politically exciting or innovative in their generation! They’re rather the product of more interesting happenings, and they are planning an even more interesting future for their son Túrin, scion of two houses of the Edain.
