So yesterday we went into a rural community as part of an outreach program to vaccinate cattle, sheep, goats and dogs. My group just did dogs and cattle and also did a few rectal pregnancy diagnoses in the cows. What an amazing experience, really glad I sacrificed some anatomy study time to go on the trip! We vaccinated with supervax and lumpy vax which covers anthrax, heartwater, lumpy skin and a few others I cant recall. The farmers are so grateful to have some help with their cattle and are so eager to learn more about how to take care of their animals...we are helping bridge the education gap by going on these trips ad conversing with the farmers. Often neglect or cruelty in our eyes is merely a lack of knowledge on their part. The needle sticks and bruises were so worth it!
