Pretty Flash is an investigation into the connections of domestic crafts and ornamentation, employing the materiality and skill of needlework to enhance traditional drawing elements. Stitched on to a small piece of found fabric, this work reimagines the function of a needlework sampler as a way of documenting a visual idea - something to refer back to. Operating as an embroidered sketch or doodle, this work distills drawing down into its distinguishable components, the length of the stitch mimics the stroke of an ordinary coloured pencil, imitating the colour, saturation, intensity and even the indentation onto the paper.
